Steffan was born in June 1956 in Washington, D.C.
An acclaimed dulcimerist, actor, and writer, he is the author of two collections of poetry, a collection of short stories, three screenplays, and three books; a mystery novel, a how-to-book, and a spiritual memoir.
He co-created and wrote for ‘The Mondo Breakfast Show’, a surrealistic sitcom that aired over a metropolitan DC cable network, winning awards for writing and producing on that series.
He has spent over a decade performing with and writing for both comedy troupes and theatrical companies in Maryland, Virginia, Washington, D.C., and Tennessee specializing in staging murder mysteries.
A short film he wrote and produced with Excelsior! Productions, 'The Better Half', won the Grand Prize in a Washington DC film festival. His written material has been performed across the country, at The National Theatre in Washington D.C. and on PBS.
His career has included stints as a vocational therapist, reporter, and call-in tarot reader. He lives with his wife in Tennessee, where they tend to their gardens, shepherd a spiritual congregation, and coordinate a craft and media studio.
In 2009, he was given an Honorable Mention by The Speculative Literature Foundation for 'Wishes Haunting Dreams'.
He regularly updates his on-line column, "The Cabinet of Dr. Paradox", maintains,an e-store at CafePress, (links below) and provides general updates on Facebook and Live Journal.
