about me

Hey world! My name is Laura and I'm a true blue Aussie with a passion for reading, writing and classical singing – though unfortunately I have never been able to combine these skills.

I am also a pharmacy student who loves martial arts (namely Karate) and as such, seem to have a finger in many pies!

I've been reading and writing for as long as I can remember, losing myself in the twisted tales that unfold in one’s imagination.

My novel: 'Guardian' is a work in progress, commenced in the latter half of 2009 as an antidote to the constant hours of study. Originally a short story, it has expanded considerably (presently sitting at just over 80,000 words - incomplete). It tells the tale of Tatiana and her sister Daisy, forced to embark on a treacherous journey to restore balance and harmony to the forest surrounding their home.
For those of you who read what I have and would like to know more, please, by all means, let me know. I would be happy to post more, if the demand is there.

I like to think myself pretty approachable so if you have any questions, please feel free to shoot them my way! I’m more than happy to return reads and comments – but I am honest. I will tell you what I think – blame it on the red hair.

The website below contains other shorter works - poetry and short stories. Things not really suitable for this site.

Anywho!! Hope to hear from you soon,

Laura :-)

Guardian

Laura Hibbins-Leece

Minder to a forest Guardian, Tatiana needs all the help she can get but what happens when that help is from someone she cannot trust?

When Tatiana learns her little sister is more than human - things change. Her volatile family erupts, their mother evicted and their father controlling what little freedom they have left.

An arranged marriage, a forbidden love, strange, otherworld voices, snippets of advice and visits from unexpected and unwelcome forest forces...

When thrust into a journey she's unprepared to take, Tatiana finds herself pursued through the deeps of the forest, scaling abnormally large trees, and using powers she never suspected she had.

Hi there! Well, I've read the first 20 chapters you've posted - I have to be up early in the morning so bed is calling now. However, I thought I'd just let you know that this, whilst, dark, disturbing, morbid, horrifying, confronting and *feel free to insert any other descriptive words you wis... view book

Having only read the first few chapters of this book - I can't wait to read more! You have a gripping writing style that ensnares the reader’s imagination, drawing them deeper and deeper into the world you have created. Your opening was quite confronting but perfect. You can't read it without wan... view book

I would first like to offer my congratulations. This a a very well construced tale, with a fast moving story line and deep characters. Lecky's home life is not at all a pretty picture and whilst you depicted it masterfully, I was a little thrown how it reflected on the rest of the story. Thus far... view book

This is a charming collection of tales. Brainy Brian's adventures made me laugh (you've done a great job with the little dittys at the end of each of his tales) - it goes to show that children's stories are not just for children but also those who continue to embrace their inner child. Do you have... view book

What is for dinner? This was a delight to read - from the beginning of chapter one to the end of 16. You capture the horror and the gutsyness (this is now a word) of Clay. You've portrayed the mind of a troubled 16 year old extremely well. Your dialouge is punchy and both easy to read and foll... view book
