about me

I write Arthurian fiction because King Arthur commanded me to. It's true. I saw the movie CAMELOT when I was a teen and loved it. At the end King Arthur looms large on the screen and commands: "Don't let it be forgot . . ." I took it literally. The idea for my main character was conceived that same night. The House of Pendragon series incubated for about 17 years while I researched and did other things in life. I married, had children, we became a military family and moved around alot. In 1990, the year we lived in England, story and character began to gel and in 1993 I finally set pen to paper to write FIREBRAND.

It's complete and published through Amber Quill Press. I've included my full synopsis here. Copies of FIREBRAND and its sequel, THE RECRUIT are available through Amazon.

I just added the link below.

While you're here, check out my "Embrace the Dark Side of Camelot" thread in the authonomy forum. It's a self-interview where I talk about my writing process, as well as the genesis and evolution of my main character, Lin ferch Arthur, with the occasional silliness and Rush mention.

The House of Pendragon I: The ....

Debra A. Kemp

Although sired by King Arthur, fate damns Lin to wear the slave-collar. Robbed of identity she clings to dignity until freedom restores her birthright.

Despite the collar marking her as a slave of Dunn na Carraice, young Lin is fiercely determined to retain her pride and keep her family intact. That dignity bears a price, for Lin has drawn the wrath of Modred, the youngest prince of Orkney. His single-minded quest to break strong-willed Lin--by any means necessary--nearly succeeds. Although Lin is accustomed to the death, disease, rape and famine that runs rampant in the slave hovel she calls home, it is when her beloved brother Dafydd is placed on the auction block that her warrior spirit becomes apparent to all who challenge her, and the shocking secret of her lineage is finally revealed.

The Shield-bearer

Debra A. Kemp

Modred comes back, but this time Lin is armed.

A continuation of my House of Pendragon series. In book 2 King Arthur's daughter, Lin, wants more than a life of weaving and gossip. Rejected and misunderstood by her mother, the Queen, Lin turns to her father for acceptance by joining his army. Book three picks up where Recruit leaves off, taking her place in the Seat of Peril at the Round Table beside her father, the Pendragon.

[QUOTE] Debra, I have just read the chapters you have posted, and i must confess I love this story. Camelot, princess, duty, honor...The first chapter introduces the characters, and you get just enough information to clearly envision the scene. I enjoyed how Lin was distracted when sparring with ... view book

Thanks for reading. Not sure about the cover right now, cuz I don't have all the story yet. Would rather wait for that and the generic brick road seems to fit for now. view book
