about me

Above all else, I'm a mother to two incredibly beautiful girls, Breathe and Alight. I spend my days contriving creative ways to build a solid, secure and happy childhood for them: we trumpet through the house on our knees playing Elephants in the Jungle, we paint our entire bodies purple polka dots on a regular basis just because we can, we fly kites and play pretend all day long. In addition to raising the girls, I also write constantly. Writing is as necessary to me as breathing: it is my escape, my haven. If anyone was born a writer, it would be me. I was reading my own books aloud to classmates by the third grade. I don't write books to provide readers with an escape from reality, rather I write books to make my readers more aware of reality, to motive them to action, to compel them to stop and think, then care. Most of my books are intense and painful but they are also stories that matter. When I'm not playing with my girls or writing, I can be found singing unabasedly to country music, riding horses at break-neck speeds or thinking outside the box for ways to live life so that, one day, I don't look back and see regrets instead of memories.

The Character

Tiffini Johnson

Intense. Painful. This is 10 yr-old Anna's story of abuse but also of her redeeming friendship with the mysterious storyteller named Ash.

An intense and ground-breaking work on a societal issue all too often swept under the rug, "The Character" is the first person narrative of 10 year old Anna, who is in the midst of agonizing abuse. At turns tender and candid, the novel examines what abused children call "normal". Anna finds the strength and courage to overcome the abuse through her redeeming friendship with a mysterious storyteller named Ash who unfailingly convinces Anna that the power to triumph lies within herself. Though painful to read, the author depicts abuse with decorum and grace, and inspires hope through special friendships that are available to each person struggling with trauma. A must read!

Interesting. I like the ability, and the courage, to come at the sci-fi genre in a more thought-provoking way..... Backed :) view book

It's taken me longer to respond to this than usual because it is so good! Usually, I read the first three chapters (I have to set a limit; otherwise, I'd be reading Authonomy all night instead of writing!), then back or send the author a message as to why I didn't but, I didn't want to stop at the ... view book

I've only got time to read the first three chapters but this is really, really good !! I am excited to have the chance to read more later. I especially love the characterization, and am curious about the "accident" that apparently altered Hayley's marriage. I loved the phrase "emotions conquered p... view book

The best part of the three chapters I've thus far read was the narrator's voice. First person has always been tricky for me to pull off but I really liked the way she felt and sounded and thought like a regular human being. I also like the way you open each chapter with a quote that seems to effect... view book

I've only read the first three chapters, but the pitch is superb and your development of the characters is well-thought out and good. I like the humor involved, too: I don't write much that has much humor at all, so it was nice to be able to smile through something :). Backed. view book
