Songs of a Seeker

Mala Iyer

This is a book that explores the interface between faith and the practice of child psychiatry through meditations, reflections and case narratives.

As I have grown and have negotiated the vicissitudes of life, a melody that began in my youth has become a more complex song of celebration of a Higher Power.
As a child, I daydreamed, as a teenager I questioned, as a young adult, I vacillated between my new found intellectual growth as a young physician and the questioning and wonder that never went away.
As I have grown and as i have experienced the complexity and the resilience of the human spirit in my work , faith has become central to my functioning; to my existence.
Faith in a higher power, a God of Love. As i practice, I have learnt humility; that I am only an instrument that translates the work of the Great Physician.
These past years have been a journey of seeking.
They have colored my interactions with my patients and have made my practice of medicine more meaningful.
This is a collection of thoughts, feelings and encounters with patients that have left me with a reverence and a respect for the power of faith.
I offer this with love: a collection of songs of one who still seeks, to Him, for whom I am seeking.

Mira and the Red Monkey

Mala Iyer

A book about a little girl who asks why,her red monkey who has all the answers and her parents who learn from them both.

Mira asks why incessantly and invents a novel means of having her questions answered. Along the way, her parents learn to see the world differently.
The second section , beginning with chapter 2, is a manual of sorts for us adults to begin to rediscover much of what we lose as we grow older and not necessarily wiser.
