PLEASE READ NERO IN GREECE
Looking for comments on Nero in Greece: The Tour!
Which is a work in progress.

The Fall of Nero is the first in my Year of the Four Emperors series. It centres on the tumultuous 69 AD and the four very different men who attempted to become Emperor.
It is complete, as is Galba's Men the next book in the series.

Fancying a break from all that politics Nero in Greece is an enjoyable romp/farce detailing the Emperor's participation in the Panhellenic Games and culminating with a ten horse chariot race at the Olympic Games (a historical fact).

Nero in Greece: The Tour!

LJ Trafford

Follow Nero & entourage as they compete in the Isthmian, Nemean, Pythian and finally the Olympic Games!

After forty years of politicking and manipulation, Imperial private secretary, Epaphroditus should be enjoying himself at the top of the career ladder.
However, his dreams of sorting out the mess his predecessor has left are dashed when the Emperor insists he accompany him on his tour of Greece.

Rather than solving Rome's dire financial situation he finds himself coping with an Emperor who thinks he's an artist, an eunuch who thinks he's the Empress, the actual Empress who mysteriously despises him and hundreds of Imperial slaves who've never left the Palace let loose on the streets of Corinth, Delphi, Nemea and Olympia.

And that's all before Nero decides to compete personally in the Pan-hellenic Games. Obviously the Emperor must triumph but with the Greeks proving surprisingly adverse to bribery and Nero lacking in any discernible talent, Epaphroditus is going to need his wily skills more than ever to maintain Imperial dignity.

The Fall of Nero

LJ Trafford

Emperor Nero attempts poetry.
Secretary Epaphroditus attempts control of the stationery budget.
And Praetorian Prefect Sabinus attempts to do away with them all!

68 AD and for once, Rome is peaceful.
Whilst Emperor Nero plays with his new water organ and a cross dressing eunuch, his wily secretary Epaphroditus manages the governance issues. However, times are changing.
Praetorian Prefect Nymphidius Sabinus, a man so straight he'd make a decent spirit level, is disgusted by the moral degeneracy of Nero’s court. Motivated by the traditional Roman values of valour and nobility and with a stack of ‘mother’ issues to rival Nero’s, Sabinus is determined to remove the Emperor from a throne he does not deserve.

Will Epaphroditus uncover Sabinus’ insidious plotting in time?
Can he save Nero’s throne?
And more importantly, can he organise an elegant Imperial dinner party that doesn’t descend into orgyism?

Dedicated students of history will conclude; probably not.
But come along for the ride as Sabinus unwittingly unleashes the Year of the Four Emperors!

My thoughts as I was reading. Great opening paragraph, very Raymond Chandler. I like Raymond Chandler I am going to read on. “I don’t, I ask the right ones.” Great line! Brilliant first chapter. You do dialogue great, reflecting how people actually talk rather than the Hollywood script version. ... view book

My thoughts as I was reading. Really hate the phrase ‘strikingly beautiful’. Bit of a cliché and the description should show that she is strikingly beautiful rather than having to be told. That’s just a pet peeve of mine though. Again deliriously happy – you don’t need it. You’ve shown her free wh... view book

My thoughts as I was reading. I don’t think you need to describe David and Emily in the first chapter the way you do. I think it would be better to wait until we meet them before addressing their characteristics. Starting to feel sorry for Jack’s Mum if she’s got a 12, 11 and 10 year old. Phew. F... view book

My thoughts as I was reading. First chapter. Already liking your heroine, she’s gutsy and liking the difficulties put in her way and the prejudice against her running the plantation. Liking her battle with the awful Duncan. I feel her anger at his presumption and like her gutsy refusal to marry him... view book
