about me

I live in Oregon with my wife and my labradoodle puppy, Mosley. I teach ESL at the elementary school level and love to draw cartoons, workout, watch movies, read books and write in my free time. I finished my first book this year called, "Benny Santiago and the Mask of Mortimer Muerto." I am currently looking to be published while I am writing two other books called, "The Green Niño," and "Paul's Bunion and the Cure for Wild Bill's Hiccups."

I am really enjoying reading all the great material on here. Feel free to send me a message and I will check out anyone interested in swapping reads and/or comments! I will never ask to swap bookshelves though. IF you believe my work deserves to be on your shelf that is great, if not no problem. I will do the same.

If I haven't reciprocated comments, it's only because I am a bit disorganized from time to time and/or my list is long. Please just bug me and I will give your great book a go!

Note: My cover was done by Frankie Nicholl, AKA RoseRed. She is also a great Author. Please check out her book, "Ashes of Roses."

Benny Santiago and the Mask of....

Jesse Tate

Not-Earth, that wonder world of puns and absurdity, is doomed. But what's this- a twelve year old rescuer? Roll on the mayhem!

This manuscript portrays twelve year old Benny Santiago’s first days as a person with extreme talent and abilities, (superhero is so last year) whose path collides with Dr. Vert and Señor Snert, the Planet Bandits from the world of Hert in an epic showdown including retired pirates turned restaurateurs, an almost invisible elf-like cowboy ape, a hog and dog recovery agent and the most diabolical belch ever created. In addition to its rollicking plot and unforgettable characters, this story also incorporates many elements of the Latino culture and language, giving it mass appeal to the modern youth. *

*With tuns of puns, a lot of alliterations, and more spoonerisms than you can stake a shick at, Benny Santiago and the Mask of Mortimer Muerto is a must read for kids, adult kids and senior citizen kids alike. Plus I want to be published!

"hmmmm... I think I now know what happened to all the jugo juice." -- you have to follow Benny on his adventure to find out what happened. Surely, I wouldn't give it away in the third chapter ;) view book

Stephen, you have a great way with words, and you can paint a great picture, no question there. I agree with others that you can trim down on some of the verbage, and/or take out some words and still have the same effect. One example --"the boy lifts his face to his mouth and covers his mouth with ... view book

After just the first chapter, well, somewhere in the middle, it became obvious to me why this is the number one book. It is beautiful and poetic. Who else could start a book about an art project and make it masterful? Not I. I added you to the shelf. The rest of the book is for me, for fun. ... view book

Wow, this is really funny, I was hooked by the first paragraph. This story sets a tone and mood that everyone can relate to.. You have a great voice, and to pull it off in first person makes me envious. I can't do it myself. I will be reading more for sure, and you can bet that this will be on my re... view book

I just finished the first two chapters and I have to say that this is brilliant writing. I love the way you weave back and forth between characters effortlessly and with no confusion. You are giving us just enough, through Paul, to keep us hooked and wanting more. I desperately want to know what h... view book
