about me

Please help me with a title. I have now finished my book on religious tolerance, partly uploaded here in a draft version, and it is about to go to the publisher for release later this year. Any comments on chosen title welcome. Originally Why Religion? - The Wisdom of Tolerance, it has been variously renamed and I think we are settled on Why Religions Work: The Folly of Atheism. The other book, Healing This Wounded Earth was published 2011 by O Books and uploaded here was a very early version - hence removed from view.

I am a long time active Anglican and jobbing theologian, trained research postgraduate scientist from Sheffield University, qualified accountant, tax consultant and financial adviser now retired, in other words an over qualified all round person! I live in South London and love my family, my church and my allotment.

Why Religion? The Wisdom of To....

Eleanor Stoneham

This book is a rebuke to militant atheists and a defence of religion, which still has a vital role to play in today’s world.

What is science telling us about life after death and non- local mind phenomena such as prayer and distance healing. Are we wired for religion or spirituality or both?

First this challenging book addresses the main criticisms held against religion, highlights their positive attributes and explains why and how religions must change to become more relevant for the needs of today’s world. Is religion worth keeping? Are militant atheists misguided? Do religion and spirituality need each other? This book clearly shows why the answer to these questions is a resounding ‘yes.’

Written by an independent and free thinking Christian, this book will help Christians and their clergy relate their church tradition to the wider world of science, spirituality and interfaith issues; it will confront those comfortable with their own faith, or who wish to explore their faith a little more; it will defy the spiritual who say they don’t need religion, and it will test those convinced that their religion or faith is the only way to enlightenment, the only path to Truth.
Read this book and be challenged!
