about me

I am a young writer who has decided to devote his entire life to the pursuit and penning of fiction.
I enjoy writing by hand, but for practical reasons I use a computer (I have never really understood the primordial attraction writers have to typewriters).
In relation to the publishing world, I would describe myself as standing for the first time; determined, even though I may be supported only on shaky grammar and heaps of misplaced punctuation marks. But hey, you never know. Keep walking, and you grow stronger. I may even take myself somewhere.

I oppose the slush mentality. By approaching a book with the sole intention of proclaiming it publishable or not people isolate themselves from the beauty inherent in any piece of writing. Books need time. They should be read from beginning to end, contemplated, and learned from. If I read your book I do so fully prepared to enjoy it.

People say that you can see a person's soul through their eyes. Their actions. Their kiss. I have never found the soul in these places so easily. For me, the soul resides in a person's Art, and it is seen by reading if off a page.

You may not like the fact that I insist on reading an entire novel before considering it for my bookshelf. Yes, well, it annoys me too. Darn morality.

I am a die-hard muppet fan.

Shadowolf

Gerard Mullan

War threatens the free country of Verandar, and for Exavier Shadowolf, an ambassador schooled in the Art of Magick, fate sits heavy in his hand.

His country is a place he has come to love; an anarchic state struggling for survival as slavery and despair push against its every border. When his mentors give him a chance to prove himself as their equal in his chosen field, metamancy - the Art of Change - he accepts and finds himself travelling abroad to the Republic of Knale. In this new land, he encounters a powerful force he has never heard of before. This... Science... begins to cause havoc with his magickal abilities, driving him to find answers as to what laws have chained his previously formidable powers. In his attempts to free Verandar from the destructive threat of technology he is led far from his home, acting under the will of the insidious Councillor Darke, a man who will stop at nothing to carry out his twisted agenda. Shadowolf is a story of self-discovery, rampant adventure, and ultimately, the cost of carrying through with an action until the bitter end.

Chapter 1: This really is a ‘wowing’ first chapter. Your writing is pristine and well thought out, allowing for smooth flow and early captivation. It is always a pleasure to read a piece like this one. Alex is an easily relatable and impeccably detailed character. I enjoy how you have thought ... view book

Chapter 1: “Besides the tone of his voice said more than any real expression ever could.” It’s an insignificant complaint really, but because there isn’t a comma after ‘besides’, I immediately related the ‘besides’ to the forthcoming sentence rather than the prior information you’re written do... view book

Prologue: A really creepy beginning. It sets the stage wonderfully. I always like knowing the killer’s background, primarily so that I can trace back a reason for the crime. By including this right from the start, you’ve set up an interesting twist: from what I’ve experienced, killers are often o... view book

Overall review: Your writing has superb structure and natural flow. Your dialogues for the most part come over as natural and well thought out, with mixes of description added between speeches which I find essential to good writing. You have a definite story in mind, and it doesn’t come across as... view book

Chapter 11 and 12: 11: At the very top of this page you start with “Twelve” instead of “Eleven”. On the car crash: Being a woman who sculpts, and stitches up silly people who run out of their cars after an accident and into the waiting arms of angry drivers, you would think Lysa would take... view book
