about me

Am diving into slush pits like a blind frog. Funny how successful authors tracked the number of rejections they received before glory came knocking. I ignore mine - am interested only in acceptance.
Fortunately, I love writing and re-reading it with undiminished pleasure. That kept me happy till recently when I decided to share with a couple of reading clubs and gathered several enthusiasts who cheered my plunge into the business and look shocked but encouraging when I crawl back out and shrug my lack of a contract. I wish they wouldn't remind me of the hundreds of artists who became famous posthumously.

favourite books

Liked most of jeffrey Archer's tomes, Isabel Allende, Kahlil Gibran, Gabriel Marquez, and Alice Tisdale Hobart - now how many of you have heard of her? :)

Mei and the Warrior

Brent Thurston-Rogers

Love is intense and judgement is flawed. Can Mei hold onto the deep bond she has forged with Lusar, or has she gone too far?

Mei Ming flees her cannibalistic village and finds an adoptive camp where she discovers her powerful graphic skill.

Her reputation reaches Lusar, a Mongol chief and he sends Aghir with furs to entice her. Mei believes the handsome messenger wants her to join him and she prepares a drawing to fill his heart with love. However, it is the Mongol chief who takes her hypnotic design.

Made defiant by Lusar’s mother’s aggressive interrogation, Mei bonds with Lusar. They marry and have a daughter, Luma.

Lusar returns from a raid injured in the groin and incapable of making love. When able to ride he travels alone to find his sister Beba and Aghir, captured by barbarians where their child Geng is born. He buys their release.

Luma and Geng venture on a long secret trek to steal a cub of the sacred Snow Leopard. Mei tracks them and is viciously gouged while saving them from the cat’s fury. Luma runs back for help, leaving Geng to protect and carry Mei, and tend to her wounds. He is the image of his father, Aghir. During their days and nights together, aroused Geng and frustrated Mei yield to temptation.

His seed takes root.

Sorry JD, (I assume your names are James Daniel), I ploughed through the 1st 2 chapts but was more interested in my tea than your tease, not because the action was 'been there, done that', but because ' 've read this, chucked that'. There has to be a better way to describe the scenes, the cast, the... view book

I'm just responding to your fleeting praise of Mae MIng and question, but naturally in order to have something substantive to say I looked at a few of your chapters and others' comments. Nothing more artful than having a character and his writer chat and take the readers' opinions right out of thei... view book

Ashen, (is that your name?) poetic and inspiring in its language. Rare stuff, and a great relief from the everyday chatter of first person narratives. Backing, because Cara has caused my pen to shiver. Lusar view book

Richard, I guess you have the 'right stuff' on the ground as well as in the air. Congrats on all the attention and rosy offers. Your success speaks volumes for authonomy and offsets the gloom that many of us are feeling. Have to back the book, like the sheep that I am. Lusar view book
