Four children explore their new garden and find an old well. It reveals a secret to their past and their future.
Emily and George move to a new house in the country and meet Hunta and Paige who live next door. They quickly become friends and explore the rambling back garden. Inside a tree covered with trailing ivy, the children make their den and find an ancient well. During their play they awake the keeper and the days left leading up to Christmas take a darker turn as one morning Emily and Paige completely disappear. The boys notice that their parents know more than they are letting on and gradually they discover how and why these two families were destined to meet up again and what brought them together in the first place. There is so much to do and Christmas is the tide that will not be held back. All must be in order by then or they risk losing everything.
