about me

I first started book writing age 15. Then stopped for nearly 30 years whilst I made my way in the world, had a family etc. Favourite character was Major Briggs-Stratton, whom I later realised I had dreamed up from a lawnmower manufacturer!
Never published, although I had the honour of being rejected once. Reminds me of an Indian Doctor I once knew, who proudly described his qualifications as "MB,BS, FRCS(Failed)"

favourite books

All Dickens, especially "A tale of 2 cities" and "David Copperfield"
Captain Corelli's Mandolin
Count of Monte Christo
Early Christopher O'Brien "Jack Aubrey" books.

The Research Police

George Flaunden

Skullduggery and cheating. All going on beneath the surface of the New NHS, in their 2 billion pound landmark Hospital. Every dog has his day.....

Tony's billions were never so well spent as with the NHS. Pioneering new drugs and research projects have helped make this the best and most profitable health system in the world. But beneath the perfect surface of clinical and research excellence lies resentment and anger. The Hospitals claim all of the medical innovations for themselves, leaving the researchers and designers little reward for their abilities. There is a huge sub-group of managers and solicitors who spend their time monitoring all the research based activity, ready to pounce with a court order as soon as anything promising is developed. This time however, Mike Dobbs, Consultant Surgeon, and Andy Brownsfarm, head of gardening, have developed a new plant based photodynamic compound, and plan to use it clinically before the research police can find it, so keeping all of the rights and royalties to themselves and their research groups.

The first big one

George Flaunden

A call from Casualty, a sick patient, diagnosis missed. It's time for junior surgeon Mike Dobbs to prove himself. But can he?

There comes a time in every junior surgeon's career when he has to step up to the plate and take responsibility. Some take to it naturally, others struggle and work it out the hard way. What would it be like for Mike Dobbs? His first chance to shine comes along when a man re-appears in casualty having been erroneously discharged by a colleague. He needs emergency surgery. Has Dobbs got the diagnosis correct this time? Can Dobbs do the operation, or will the Consultant be called in - with serious loss of face?
A momentous day in the life of a young doctor. Its not all work, work work though......

Really good stuff, I wouldn't be unhappy if I'd paid good money to read this. George Flaunden view book

thanks for looking at it. I really see it as a one-episode screenplay. I don't think there's a bigger story in it. Unless I do one of the real world, which might get me sacked.... GF view book
