about me

Have been writing for as long as I can remember (something of an exaggeration, but you know what I mean). Only in the last 5 years have I seriously tried to develop an audience for my stuff and progress has been steady but slow.

Steady Past Your Granny's, the first collection of stories, came about originally as a result of the Daily Mail's ill-conceived "have your own book published" promotion in 2005. Since then I have self-published this book (via a desktop-publishing friend, not the vanity press) and have continued to write similar stories for the local press and Mature Times.

I've tried to come up with a portmanteau word for the stories, combining nostalgia and comedy. The first attempt was 'comalgia' but that sounds like a painful condition, so I've settled on 'nostalgedy'

NOW AVAILABLE AS A KINDLE E-BOOK AT amazon.co.uk and amazon.com. - see website link below.

READING POLICY - YOU NEED TO READ THIS BEFORE BACKING
Ok, so here's the current situation. After an operation earlier this year and convalescent holiday, I found that I had a full watchlist plus an extensive list of further backers who I promised to read. In addition my bookshelf was empty. Because of the amount of time I have been away from work, I now have months of work to catch up on which will preclude any reading, commenting and backing for quite some time. Therefore, for the foreseeable future, I can only really use this site as a social networking tool. If you are kind enough to read the book, comment and/or back same, thank you very much but I do want you to be aware that it is likely to be a very long time indeed before I am able to reciprocate.

favourite books

I'm hopelessly addicted to anything by Terry Pratchett. I'm in the process of collecting the entire works of P.G. Wodehouse. Recently discovered Bill Bryson (I'm a slow learner) and have recently rediscovered "Don't Mr Disraeli" by Caryl Brahms and S.J. Simon

Just made a much delayed return to this book and read Chapter 20 (don't tell anyone, I'm not supposed to be reading anything at the moment). Great short story in the classic tradition. Nothing more needs to be said. Keep up the good work. If you ever get a spare moment, have a look at my blog at... view book

You describe the central characters and environment of your story well and clearly understand the world in which your protagonists live. My only gripe would be that I would have liked to have seen the story plunge the reader into the action of the plot from the outset, perhaps then using flashbacks... view book

This is good. A very awkward subject that is really sensitively handled in the Prologue and the establishment of the main character and the world that he inhabits. Very brave choice of subject matter that is bound to be compelling. Believable dialogue and good descriptive writing. Shelved. Ph... view book

A fun main character and a nicely descriptive style of writing. This shows promise and would certainly appeal to its target audience. I've followed my usual practice of reading the opening chapter, as I would in a book shop, to see if this would have the customers heading to the cash till, and I t... view book

Not, by any means, my usual choice of literature (although that is something of a double standard because I would certainly watch a TV show with the same plot line). Good use of believable dialogue. I have followed my usual practice of reading the first couple of chapters as I might do in a book s... view book
