about me

William Long (better known to his friends as Bill) lives and works in Northern Ireland.

He is now retired from a sales and marketing background, having at one time owned his own business designing and producing branded goods for a wide range of high profile clients.

Now concentrating on his writing Bill has completed Timecrack, a sci-fi/fantasy adventure story aimed at the young adult market – and anyone who enjoys a good read. He is currently working on the sequel Copanatec.

Having worked in Canada and the USA, Bill still travels widely and in recent years has visited Sri Lanka, Mexico, Rome, Egypt and Newgrange in Ireland to pursue his interest in ancient cultures.

An Unexpected Diagnosis is his first collection of self-published Irish short stories. The title story refers to Bill's experience on discovering he had prostate cancer. He was fortunate to discover it early and deal with it. Seven years later he treats every day as a bonus. It was also the push he needed to start writing and stop thinking about it!

An Unexpected Diagnosis is available on Amazon.

Have to add a note here:
I've been on authonomy for a little while now and I find I'm being overwhelmed trying to read so much. It's simply not possible to do justice to all the material on this site, but I will do my best to respond and comment.
My apologies if I don't get around to yours- it's mainly because of travel and work on another book: Copanatec (the sequel to Timecrack).
2011 has arrived and I have not been on the site for quite awhile. My main efforts at present are writing the sequel and contacting potential agents and publishers - writing is definitely much easier!
So, once again, my apologies if I have not kept in touch if you were kind enough to drop me a line.

Timecrack

William Long

During a mysterious explosion two young brothers travel through a timecrack to another universe. Their parents have also disappeared - will the boys find them?

Archie and his young brother, Richard, like their parents before them, have disappeared through a timecrack into another universe. They arrive in Amasia, a land peopled by ancient tribes and New Arrivals from Old Earth.

Richard has a telepathic ability that enables him to communicate with other worlds, which may be the key to getting them back home, but it also puts his life in danger when Prince Lotane, the leader of the rebel Arnaks, decides he is a Shamra child who must be sacrificed to Almighty Zamah.

But the evil Anton Cosimo with his half-brother Sandan , also New Arrivals, take Richard hostage to help them steal the secret vallonium process.

During their time in Amasia the boys attend Harmsway College; meet Aristo the timecrack traveller from Sparta; Finbar the Guide from an Irish Island; Brimstone the indestructible androt; Beepoo the Rooter who lives in the Screaming Forest and saves them from the Arnaks.

Many others become involved with the boys, especially Dr Shah who is trying to create safe travel through timecracks. Only Richard can help him, but he is missing.

Timecrack: 4 parts/28 chapters.

I was invited to read this and I have to say that I am not a fan of stories which purport to promote any brand of religion. I personally feel there is far too much of it in this troubled world of ours. However, I have an open mind on the subject and any solid human interest story will always have a... view book

I think there is a lot of potential here, but I personally would like to see a little more depth to the opening paragraphs which I believe would contribute more forcefully to the story. I wish you well with this. Backed. Bill Long Timecrack view book

This is very well written and had me chuckling at Percy's antics. I have no doubt he will be popular with a young readership, and I expect with a few older readers as well. Good luck with this. Backed. Bill Long Timecrack view book
