about me

I've written a few books - some for adults, some for children. My last children's novel - Holly Weatherby and the Enchanted House - won Children's Book of the Year on the Arts Council sponsored website youwriteon.com.

I'd rather spend time reading to my two young children than worrying about paying the mortgage, though sometimes fear of homelessness drives me out to work.

Life is short. It's there to be enjoyed.

*Taking a break. Authonomy is addictive. But there comes a time to write. I'm off to do some writing*

favourite books

I think Life of Pi is splendid, as is Captain Correllis Mandolin. Also, I'm a big fan of Khaled Hosseini (The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns). David Mitchell is pretty fantabulous too.

I read a lot so it's a bit silly to try and list favourites. I love everything ever written by Roald Dahl.

Holly Weatherby lives in a most unusual house

Holly Weatherby lives at Number 11, Large Field. A most unusual address you might think. But then, there’s nothing very usual about Holly.

Holly’s world is turned upside down on the morning of her ninth birthday when her Uncle Monty contacts her and she discovers that her parents have had a spell placed upon them by an evil witch called Tabitha. Tabitha cast the spell because Holly's parents wouldn't let her take Holly away.

Tabitha has a nasty habit of stealing children and Holly soon finds out that she’s the only one who can stop the witch once and for all.

She and Monty team up with a miserable elf, a boy with a large jewel for an eye, a giant bendy straw and a rather nervous compost heap, and they set about plotting Tabitha’s downfall.

In June 2009. Holly Weatherby won Children's Book of the Year on the Arts Council sponsored website Youwriteon.com

As if I wouldn't back this. It's bloody marvellous (though, my printers just run out of ink half way through printing chapter 11). Did you publish this, Nick (with YWO?) I think I'd rather buy it (it'd be cheaper than printing it out myself). Very. Very. Good. view book

Hello there, Well, you have something interesting here. I can't quite make up my mind. It seemed a mixture of chick-lit and children's fiction. I guess the acid test is: did I enjoy it? And, yes, I quite did. I found myself reading more chapters than I'd initially intended, so that has to b... view book

Sue - I've decided to join Authonomy - so, of course, I'll back your book. Glad to see it's doing so well here. All the best. Mike view book
