about me

Hi all. I've been taking a bit of a break from Authonomy, mostly because I need to finish a Master's Degree thesis, and the work is coming along rather slowly. Please continue to drop notes on books you would like me to read, and I will do my best to catch up.

.

One of my favorite things in the world is when telemarketers call me. If there was a "Please DO call" List, I would put my name and number at the top of it. In the past when telemarketers have called, I have:
1) Explained, in English, that I don't speak English; or
2) Tried to sell them a leafblower for $250, explaining that its a much better deal then what they are trying to sell to me; or
3) Answer all their questions by asking for definitions of words (for example, they ask: "So, are you interested?" I respond: "Well, that depends on what you mean by 'interested'.")
4) Offered to buy more and more and more and more of whatever they were selling until it finally got the point where they had to admit that they could not supply that quantity of phone lines/magazine subscriptions/whatever.
This is guaranteed comedic entertainment. Why would I deprive myself of it by adding my name to a "do not call" list?

BEFORE YOU ASK ME TO READ YOUR WORK, PLEASE UNDERSTAND THIS:
First off, authonomy writers who regularly leave meaningful and helpful comments for other authors always go to the front of the line.
I love to read, and I will read any genre, any format. I also love to write, and I am driven to be better at it. I believe that reading, revising and getting constructive criticism from others are all important exercises for improvement. Because of that, I have learned to read with a critical eye. If you want commentary from me, please expect that I will be pointing out what you have done well, as well as what needs improvement, not because I am a "hater" or a negative person, but because that's the type of feedback I crave.
If you're just looking for a glowing review that will tell the world how awesome and flawless you are, don't bother asking me to read. I'm not that kinda reader. There are others here better suited for that purpose.
Read some of my reviews to get a better idea of what I mean. Otherwise, you have been forewarned. Still want me to read your book?

The Discovery

Keith McBride

Two young attorneys walking opposite paths must converge for justice to prevail, and to get their lives back on track.

Since law school, Jameson Chase has struggled to find success personally as well as professionally. When he is fired from the one decent job he's ever held, and is betrayed by the love of his life, he withdraws into depression and self-imposed exile. However, in this dark place, he makes an important discovery which could expose a conspiracy to make millions of dollars off the greatest tragedy in American history: 9/11. Is the danger real? Or is it all in his mind?

A.J. Parrish has been able to put personal loss aside, and is riding a high-speed escalator to the top. As an in-house counsel for a large insurance company, he's already exceeding the status and salary of most other lawyers his age, and there's no signs of slowing, until his work, personal demons and status all turn on him. Only one thing can save him from losing it all: the opportunity to strike back. He will either bring justice for the greatest tragedy in American history, or forever lose his bar license and livelihood for building a case on internet-based, conspiracy theory hokum.

Hi Nathan, Read the first few chapters yesterday, and finished the rest today. Here are my thoughts: I think you have excellent technical style, which makes this review easy, because I don't feel like I need to explain a bunch of crap about verbs, show v. tell, and passive voice. You've got a g... view book

Hi Collin, Let me start off by saying: BACKED. Tremendous work. I LOVE me some nerd fiction. Disappointed that you only posted three chapters. I would love to read the entire manuscript, and would be willing to comment on it, if you feel like you'd want someone to read it with a critical eye... view book

Hi Bob, I loved this. I really, really did. Your use of parallel action is something that I'm trying to do in my book, and this makes me want to work so much harder at it. It moves at such a faster pace because of it, and your choices on when to move between the different storylines is just perf... view book

Hi Jade, I couldnt sleep last night and finished the book earlier than I thought I would. First, I want to commend you on writing a book that brings in elements of action/adventure and romance without it seeming awkwardly mixed. As I put in my note to you, as I was reading it, I got the impressio... view book

Hi Carl. This is an interesting story that I think is worth developing. However, there are some other elements that are distracting, and I think a revision of this draft should address them. With the greatest amount of respect for your work and in the interest of constructive, helpful feedback, I... view book
