about me

Latest news: I was away longer than expected, due to unexpected changes in my personal situation. I'm back, but with limited time. I'll start catching up on all of the reviews people have asked for as quickly as I am able, and I'll be posting more chapters eventually.

I enjoy reading, writing, and critiquing. I have a big red pen and I'm not afraid to use it.

A few things that you need to know about me in the Authonomy context:

1) I don't blindly trade backings. If I read your book and like it, I will back it, even if you don't back my book or leave me a comment. Please do me the favor of treating my work the same way: if you haven't read it, or don't like it, then please don't back me for the sake of a quid pro quo.

2) If you think I'll like your book, feel free to send me a message inviting me to view it. I don't mind. Don't be shy. Please note that I usually have a queue of books people have asked me to review, so it's hard for me to turn around a review request quickly, unless it's for something short.

3) I appreciate all comments, and take them all seriously, but sometimes they are contradictory so I can't take every suggestion. That doesn't mean I haven't thought about them all.

4) I try to only give positive feedback, unless you specifically ask me to tell you what, if anything, I think is wrong with your writing. I try to make my criticism constructive, but nobody really enjoys hearing that someone doesn't like their work, so I won't do it unless you want that sort of input.

5) I have a lot of respect for anyone who has the gumption to write 10,000 words and post them for the world to criticize. It might so happen that I do not like your style or genre, but I recognize you as a kindred spirit.

Travels with Danny

Danny O'Bigbelly

Danny's life is a citadel of caution, surrounded by a sea of adventure. He is about to go for a swim.

A former college professor, Danny Frenelli has been in a rut since his career plans were dashed when he failed to win tenure. For the last ten years, Danny has been living a pleasant, comfortable, but unsatisfying life. As he reaches middle age and former students begin to appear as Danny's rivals at work, it begins to dawn on him that the world has been moving on without him, and he fears that it will pass him by. When he learns that one of his few close friends, Madoka, is planning to move from Boston to San Jose, he remembers that driving across the country is something that he'd always wanted to do, and is an adventure that is within his grasp. He sets out to find America, and ends up finding himself.

Not my usual genre, but I can see why this has made it to the top of the rankings. It's a page-turner. Best thing I've seen here yet. Backed with gusto. A couple of nits, however: - DARPA's budget is only 226M this year, so I don't think they're going to be giving out any grants for $750M..... view book

Yup! I'm sure there are more typos hiding in there somewhere, but at least the first sentence is correct... Thanks! view book
