¡Shake Off!

RJ Dowling

Sex, sun and sin--a crime story as hot as a spicy chorizo. Think Elmore Leonard with a side-order of Spanish Omelette!

Set over three burning hot days and nights in Galicia, Spain, where most of the drugs from Latin America enter Europe, "¡Shake Off!" is the story of what happens when the homeless Babio rescues a police sniffer dog.

The nose of these canines is over a hundred times more powerful than your own. They are so sensitive to drugs they could detect if you'd shaken hands yesterday with Keith Richards.

But what if one of these dogs were to fall into the wrong hands?

Before he knows it, Babio is being pursued by a muscle-bound dealer and a shrewd Gitano with connections to "the people from Villagarcia". Fleeing for his life with a wannabe Shakira to his family home in the country, a place he'd vowed never to return, his problems are only just beginning. His mother doesn't take too kindly to his taste in girlfriends. The next-door neighbours are eyeing the dog. And the bad guys are on their tail.

Aimed at lovers of crime stories set in unusual and exotic locations, ¡Shake Off! is a dark and funny thriller.

Hello, I didn't like the prologue because it didn't really give me any information of substance. What I did like was the scene with the truck driver and the subtext of sexual menace--this really caught my attention. Would it be possible to start the story here? This way, I really want to know m... view book

This is very good! You have an impressive premise, fresh and intriguing. In Fantasy it's very difficult to come up with something that doesn't sound like a retread of previous books, but the Wall and the female protagonist both work wonderfully. For the most part the prose style is perfect, thou... view book

Hello, There is a lot of drama here and you show great skill in structuring the scenes and sequences to keep the reader engrossed. The first chapter in particular had a great punch to it. THe only thing I can point out as a weakness is that the focus of the narration seems a little skewed. In th... view book

I have to add myself as another person who doesn't like football, but who enjoyed the opening of this novel. I even felt a little sorry for this guy despite the fact he's earning 6 grand a week! In terms of the writing, you have a tendency to be specific about unnecessary things--the "steel" tap... view book

There is an intangible quality to the writing which perfectly fits the storyline. Can't say anything to improve this. I do feel that this style of writing suffers from being read on a monitor screen and would best be enjoyed in a sumptuous hardback. Hope this will published in that format soon. ... view book
