about me

I am currently in SE Asia and and sailing on a 34' sloop singlehanded eastwards. I hope to be heading up towards Japan and then crossing the N. Pacific in order to return to the west Coast of the United States.

After finishing a MSc at the University of Cape Town I sailed from South Africa to Florida, USA, through the Panama Canal and across the Pacific to New Zealand and then to Sydney, Australia with crew.

My PhD is from the Australian National University, Canberra in plant ecophysiology.

Since leaving Sydney I've sailed solo. I went over the top of Australia, across the Indian Ocean to Sri Lanka and then Aden. Then it was up the Red Sea, through the Suez Canal to Turkey before crossing Greece and the Adriatic up to Venice.

Then, in an inspired move, I decided to turn around rather than complete my circumnavigation.

So I went back across the Eastern Mediterranean, down the Red Sea, past India, to Thailand/Malaysia.

The Books of Time are a five book fantasy series (DOOR, KEY, NIGHTMARE, CLEANSING, BIRTH) covering several generations as lives become legends. They are the story of a young man who must discover himself, learn about his world, remove the old order, build a new society, and then face the final test he was empowered for.

In DOOR Hamish must decide if he is a man, a God, or an Immortal.

In KEY Felix, a grandson of Hamish, must convince Lord Altan, the Binding of the World and Underworld, that the experiments with Magic of the immortal Guide Navarra must be stopped.

In NIGHTMARE Tobin, a descendant of Hamish, must decide if the side of immortal General Falkyr Fhar’son is the right one in the Ending War against the Kingdoms of the Nightlords under the command of the Guide Navarra.

In CLEANSING Raycal helps spread the messages of warning of the blind, deaf mute Thyme as society rebuilds without the protection of The Binding and the other Immortals.

In BIRTH the perfect being from beyond the edge of The World arrives and offers eternal bliss to all those who accept it.

The first book, DOOR is in three volumes -
The Binding Returned
The World Revealed
The End of the Nightlord.

I read chapter 6 of Brief Objects of Beauty and Despair and really enjoyed it. If the others are as good I’ll be coming for for quite awhile. Jeffrey Miller The Binding Returned view book

I first noticed the title of SAIL, and knew I’d have to check it out. It’s rare to come across a novel that’s almost entirely internal monologue and contemplation that is as interesting as this. After reading 23 chapters I’m still fascinated. Jeffrey Miller The Binding Returned view book

Sirocco Express opens with a scene which would clearly stick in Adebayo’s mind, since it sticks in the readers mind. From that point on, Sirocco Express sets off at a pace that fits it’s title. At yet the lives of the characters are handled with a sensitivity, and sympathetic understanding that ... view book

From the opening, Duty or Destiny is clearly going to be both a great read, as well as educational. Pulling off a readable biography of an extremely well known personality, that doesn’t get abused for ‘taking liberties with the facts’ is a hard act to pull off. Since the cold hard facts of the l... view book

After the opening depression, Defining Moments moves into manic gear and really zips along. I was surprised how far into the story I’d gone, and how quickly the time had passed. Maybe this is the ideal book for all the office blokes to read in order to learn about the lives of the women they mar... view book
