about me

I always return reads . . . although I'm not that speedy sometimes when I get swamped with the paying work:)
But if I've agreed a read, I'll get there eventually!

Contrary to my avatar, I'm London born and bred but was brought up in Sussex from the age of ten. I now live nineteen miles from Central London. I'm a freelance book cover designer and have worked in publishing for years.

Fledgling is now up on Amazon.com and I still can't get used to seeing it up there with the other 'real' books!
At the risk of 'doing a Paltrow' I really would like to thank the hundreds of fellow writers on here who took the time and trouble to comment and back Fledgling. You rock. All of you.

Huge thanks to the Authonomites who have now bought a copy of Fledgling, too. I think Mandi was the first, with Lallie and Sue close seconds! Thank you :)

RENEGADES

Berni Stevens

The vampire's secrets should always be kept . . .

RENEGADES is the sequel to FLEDGLING, a contemporary vampire thriller set in London.

A teenage boy is delivered to Will’s Highgate house. An unexpected guest would not usually be a problem, but this one is a vampire.

Will is the vampire Elder of London, and it's his job to see the rules are adhered to. Turning a child is forbidden, which means new players are in town – renegades who have no qualms about turning children.
Reluctantly, Will takes the boy in, knowing he'll be safer under his watchful eye. Elinor finds herself in the unexpected role of surrogate mother, whilst trying to keep the peace between a sullen teenager, and her occasionally jealous man.

When human bodies drained of blood are discovered on Hampstead Heath, London’s vampire community is put on red alert. Then people close to Will are targeted, and all hell breaks loose.

I agree with Layla - teens are self obsessed and completely on their own planet most of the time. Of course Raz will appear shallow, it's called good characterisation :) I read the first three chapters and found them to be fun and entertaining. The YA readers will love it. Good luck! I like the way you've built up tension from the beginning. The characters are good too, especially the bitchy stepmother with her matching children:) Nicely done and perfect for your YA market. Plenty of angst and things to rebel against. Good luck :) Berni x Renegades view book

Carissa, I loved reading this - five chapters in and I'm smiling and nodding my head - like I've met one of those and one of those - and thank heavens I'm married. Beautifully observed and very well-written. Every girl should have a copy :) Good luck Berni x view book

Hi James, You have some really great ideas here. I love the way the wolf is just behind Jack's eyes and ready to surface from his body. But for me, I would like a snippet from Kevin's demise at the very beginning, a real shock taster to draw the reader in. Then you could go back to Jack's awa... view book
