about me

Hi all, the name's Dave, I've been jotting and scribbling stories for as long as I can remember and now currently working on my first 'proper' novel, Slaughter City.

I welcome all feedback, good and bad (though I prefer constructive rather than out and out abuse!), and look forward to reading other people's work as well when I have the time!

Just a quick note- I work long hours in the week at the moment and barely have the time to write my own work, feed and wash myself. If someone's read and left feedback on my work I will always read theirs and return the favour but unless something really grabs me I won't back or read off the back of chain mails asking me to. I'm sorry it's really nothing personal I just don't have the time!

Also... don't know why many people on here seem intent on trolling, pettiness and slagging each other off but I'm not getting involved. It's the internet, people.

Cheers!

Dave

Slaughter City

Dave Skinner

Denton City, 2036: a young war veteran trying to escape his criminal past finds himself trapped between a maverick police unit and his old gang.

In totalitarian 2036 America, young army veteran and former gangster Jez Ryan returns from a decade at war to the overcrowded and violent slum he grew up in, the titular 'Slaughter City'.

Everything he knew has changed; his sister is following in his criminal footsteps, his best friend is missing presumed dead, and the love of his life is married with a young child.

Having experienced the outside world Jez wants to go straight, but no matter how much he tries to escape his past he finds himself unable to break out of the savage cycle of violence that passes for everyday life in the slums.

With his old gang planning bloody revolution and a maverick police gang unit on his tail, Jez is torn between his old loyalties and doing the right thing, but when he finally agrees to help the police he is branded an informer and targeted by his former friends.

When tragedy strikes and everything dear to him is threatened, Jez gives in to his violent nature and goes after his old gang alone in a brutal personal vendetta that will spill onto the streets and decide the future of Slaughter City itself.

Hey Nat... just finished this. Just like to say I wasn't sure about it getting started (but I think you're getting an idea of the stuff I usually read and this isn't usually it :p) but around chapter 4 things picked up and it gathered in pace and depth till I got quite irritated it ended where it di... view book

Hey Gareth thanks for the feedback! Some very interesting points... First off, Jez IS a thug... this was actually my intention, but you're pretty much the first person who's ever actually taken him as meant. He's not stupid, and he's not 'evil', but he's been raised in a vacuum of positive influ... view book

I just got a mental image of Harris in a cheerleader's outfit... 0_0 I may never recover... I will however agree that that needs changing... Didn't spot the surplus of bull, thanks for the catch. view book
