favourite books

Top ten all time favourites (constantly undergoing redevelopment):
1) The Harry Potter Books by J. K. Rowling (because anyone who says they don't love them a liar).
2) The Edge Chronicles by Paul Stewart and Chris Riddell (because I'm a fourteen-year-old boy at heart).
3) Perfume by Patrick Suskind (a novel idea, elegantly written and fabulously weird).
4) Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austin (because all men should be like Mr Darcy and all women like Eliza Bennet).
5) The Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux (terrifying, beautiful and timeless).
6) The Shining by Stephen King (alright, I didn't actually enjoy it but King is a captivating storyteller).
7) Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte (because I'm a teenage girl and also a cliche).
8) The Catcher in the Rye by J D Salinger (ditto).
9) East of Eden by John Steinbeck (worth the labour of reading, it explores unflinchingly the human condition).
10) The Land of Green Ginger by Noel Langley (quite possibly the most ridiculous and hilarious book or all time).

The Good, the Bad and their In....

K D Stileman

It's good versus evil. Pick a side.

Drinking and dancing. Fighting and flirting. Abduction. Death threats. Torture. Toby is cool, confident and controlled by a terrible secret- he and his friends live every moment at the mercy of the man in black and his henchmen. Enter Alisia, who is hiding something too: a world of dark dealings, evil dictators and strange, psychic powers in which they are unwittingly involved. In this, the first instalment of their adventures, Toby, Rachael, James, Emily and George discover the source of their fears and are given the choice to flee them or to fight. But this decision was never theirs to make and the friends are soon plunged into a war they did not start, for a world that is not their own. In this contemporary fantasy-thriller a group of teenagers are forced to face up to the fantastical and see that, though the line between good and evil is a thin one, it's impossible not to take sides. Still, with the help of Alisia and her friends they might just live to learn about the good, the bad and their intentions.

This is FANTASTIC! I know you have it down as YA but it's so dark I wouldn't be surprised if it had an adult market too. There's such an undercurrent of teenage sexuality and fear, I love the way you play with different forms as well, the poem at the end of Chapter 3, swift dialogue, some almost dr... view book

i must say that when i first started reading this i didnt like it. i didnt like the protagonist, nor did i like the way you could hear all her thoughts- some things should be left to the imagination and for goodness sake, who did like walking to school on a monday morning?! but then i started to get... view book

im actually very impressed with your work but i think there are a couple of things that drag it down. firstly, its certainly fits a YA market and yet details like 'wizard dollars' drag it down to childrens level. also, its a bit too harry potter. im not sure if you wrote your before or after j k and... view book

this is like an english-abrabic sex in the city! and it really works. what i like best is the time youve put into your incidental characters- the waiters at abu ali's, the stereotypical immigrant mothers, the reporters- it really pays off. also as a londoner i think you really portray the city and i... view book
