about me

In May 2009 I posted the first three chapters of my historical fantasy novel here on authonomy. I got lots of great feedback, and went on to finish the manuscript and submit it to agents.

I am delighted to announce that in March 2011 it was acquired in a three-book deal by Angry Robot Books, coincidentally a former imprint of HarperCollins. It will be out in paperback and ebook in March 2012, under its new title "The Alchemist of Souls".

This is great fun - the Wild West opening is just so easy to visualise despite the minimal descriptions, then we get down to the nitty gritty of European politics, spies and murder. An easy shelf! Only one nitpick in these first three chapters: "It had been issued by the now defunct Empire." -... view book

An intriguing story, and great writing - I wish I had time to read more. Shelved, of course! I have a couple of nitpicks in this first chapter, but only because a few tiny phrases stood out as not quite matching the quality of the rest of the writing: "...descending down..." - as opposed to de... view book

Wow - I read all of this, which is unusual for me! Maybe being an internet geek myself and a friend of Wiccans helps... Great stuff, and I would definitely buy this! I though chapter 5 was maybe a bit longer, but on the other hand v sexy ;) OK, on to the nitpicks: ch 2 - "speculating while ... view book

Hi Valentina I was never into the horsey stuff (although I did ride a little as a teenager), so I don't really have any standard for comparison, but this seemed pretty good. You have some engaging young protagonists (I particularly liked the rebellious Shane!) and the writing flows nicely. Wit... view book

Hi Henry Nice start - the conflict with the brothers throws us straight into Tom's world and introduces the main characters with a minimum of fuss. A well-described fight scene as well, focusing on the action and describing it in just enough detail. If I have any quibbles it's that you maybe u... view book
