about me

I am sorry folks, but due to an increase in some not so desired messages, I have chosen to receive messages only from friends.
Onward.... I am not on much as of late, however, I promise to read and comment where I vowed to do so someday... In the meantime, I will make all efforts to rotate the books on my shelve at the start of each month. I thank you to all who have shelved Pieces or taken the time to read, comment, rate.
I have self-published three books, 'Tuffy', 'The Favor', and 'Pieces of the Past', with a fourth, 'The Contract', due out this autumn. I consider myself lucky as I have gained a following for my works. (I have posted chapters of Pieces of the Past on this site, however, feel free to check out my website for more on the other titles mentioned or to purchase copies.)
Currently I am looking into doing several others via the E-book format; a bit of a daunting task for a paper lover.
My stories are best described by saying I either place fictional characters into a historical time, or should the tale be set in the modern day, sprinkle it with historical places & folk, or family lore. In both I add a hint of romance, and mix in events, & places which appeal to both men & women.
More about me? Well ok, I grew up as an Air Force brat, living in a variety of places, developing a curiosity of histories, cultures, sports, music, and a love of animals. It was no surprise I was given the title of historian at an early age. I went on to study at Central Arizona College and University of Arizona, graduating with degrees in both The Arts and Education before embarking on a teaching
career.
When I don't have my nose in a book, I can be found among friends at Civil War living history re-enactments, exploring museums, taking trips down back roads, or in debates over whose team is the better.
I am the proud mom of one son & share my home with a husband and one cat, one kitten. Oh yes, I finally revamped my website so if ya got a minute....

Pieces of the Past

Elizabeth Matson

19th century sorrows made Nathan Mahone leave everything behind, forgotten until the 20th century when grandson Simon begins digging to uncover the family's past.

In 1846 Nathan Mahone's losses lead him to become a doctor, never dreaming the country's Civil War would bring further hardship to his doorstep. Unfortunately, it wasn’t the end of his sorrows, ones so heart
wrenching, he chose to walk away and leave everything behind.
Over a century and a half later, Simon, haunted by dreams of the great, great grandfather he never met, finds himself in possession of the key belonging to the doctor's forgotten homestead. With his best
friend, 'Ol Blue, and an unexpected ally, he embarks on a journey to restore Doc Nathan's home, answering puzzling family questions by assembling the family's Pieces of the Past.
These are but a few chapters of a tale which floats between the modern day and the 1800's. I have chosen these pages in an effort to give the reader a peek into the lives of the main characters. Bear in mind that while these chapters are posted in the same order as in the book, others resting between have been omitted. After all, the book contains 477 pages,
This was quite a task and thus I hope I have chosen wisely.

A six star read! The characters are strong and draw you in, you get to know them as if they were your own family, enough so that when something sorrowful happened I found myself dabbing at a tear. This is a grand reminder at how a person can affect the lives of so many in the long run. As a histor... view book

Well it's about time John's father came around! But what I wanted to comment on was the fact, no, the description regarding Bertie finally eating snails... loved it. Adult like, comparing it with a mushroom, yet with a flavor of butter and garlic, and child like, 'was that the eyeball?'.. Having had... view book

Anna, while I have only gotten through chapter 1, however, I have been drawn in by the way you painted not only the scenery, but the relationship between the 2 siblings, and hinted at the plot. Usually I don't go for books of such sort, but I am looking forward to reading on as the flow of writing i... view book

From page to page I have grown attached to the characters and felt privileged to share in their story; a story not only of joys, sorrows, and adventures. This was no ordinary! Their lives were full of intrigue, suspense, secrets, war, murder, and then some, all during the early-mid part of the 20th ... view book

I had but a minute to read, however, one minute turned into more as I simply got drawn in to this read. The dialect is written in a way which brings the strong characters alive, characters that are described throughly without an overload of information. Meanwhile, the descriptions of the area are cl... view book
