about me

Hello

I'm taking a bit of time off from the site to concentrate on writing. All the comments have been much appreciated and more than a few were extremely useful.

Good luck to all the books I've backed. So long, and thanks for all the fish.

Mike

Calloway Blood, is complete at about 65,000 words (although i haven't uploaded all of it yet). I have also completed around 50,000 words of the sequel but it is still a first draft. The second book picks up a few months after the first and expands in scope to include soldiers and workers.

favourite books

Captain Corelli's mandolin, Life of Pi, 1984, The Game of Thrones series, Brave New World, HWOSG by Dave Eggers.

Calloway Blood

Michael Lynch

Fear is endemic.
If a man won’t bend, he will be broken.
This is Straybeck.

The Premier demands loyalty and, behind him, the Cathedral casts a long, black shadow.

Rob Calloway has fought before. He has paid a terrible price.

Ryan Calloway is weighed down by his father's shame. Twenty years later he is drawn into the same fight.

His younger brother, John, wants to protect Ryan until they fall for the same girl.

Alia Turner is the daughter of a factory owner. She was part of Straybeck’s elite until a worker riot left her father a cripple.

Calloway Blood is the story of one family struggling to survive. In a terrifying city, we see a boy growing up too fast and a father and brother who can’t keep him safe.

This is extremely well written. It could so easily have been over-written, but it wasn't. In a very short space of time you paint us a detailed picture of each character and that is no easy thing. Based on the prologue i would certainly read more and also recommend it to others. Good luck on securin... view book

Hi Suzie, A very honest undertaking this one. If i'm honest, the subject matter of your book is not one that i would naturally read myself. I find it too uncomfortable. However, i recognise that your story is one that would (and has) built up a following amongst fans of the genre. If i could m... view book

Hi Jeff, I agree with the comment made below about working on your pitches. The long one is punchy, but definitely needs a bit more white space in it. As for the writing, it is precise and you have a good economy of words. I found the subject matter uncomfortable and struggled trying to get i... view book

Great long pitch, definitely made me want to read on. There is no other word for your writing that "slick". It already feels like the genuine article and i wish you luck with the top 5 slot. Cheers, Mike view book
