The Insurgent's Journal

Don A. Martinez

One woman's quest to find her family means liberation for her people.

Book 3 of the Phantom Squadron series moves the time forward even further, to a point in time where a dictatorship rules America and the acts of one supernatural woman could bring the whole thing down like a house of glass. The United States is no more. The New Empire of America holds power now. The people of the former U.S.A. now live in the "glory" of President-for-Life Carleton Regent, his wife and Vice President Jennifer, and the immensely powerful Supernatural Suppression Agency. Their goal: eliminate all supernaturals! A victim of the SSA's purges is Alanna Sharpe, now missing her supernatural parents Ariel and Cole. Summoned by her parents' former ally Gabe Francis, she takes the burden of her Sharpe birthright ... the Sword of the Guardsman. Gabe presents Alanna with a quest. To save her parents, she must bring down the New Empire of America! Alanna pushes forth against the SSA and its field commander, General Tyrelius Scolar. But will Alanna be prepared for the haunting secret behind the rise of Scolar, the SSA, and the New Empire?

Dinetah Dragon

Ariel Sharpe, as told to Don A....

The memoir of a woman whose life as a dragon and as a Navajo have left her isolated. A 2010 NaNoWriMo entrant.

A life lived in a fantasy tale, Dinétah Dragon is the story of Ariel Sharpe, a Navajo woman blessed (or cursed) with the ability to grow into a dragon, complete with the trademark powers of flight and firecasting. The life she leads up to her transformation, as well as the complications it causes her and the adventures she embarks upon afterward, lead her away from a life of isolation as she relearns the power of family, friendship, faith, and true love.

Written as a memoir, Ariel's story is related through a transcriber who offers his own interjections about the woman's character, including her appearance, her mannerisms, how telling the story affects her, and the family she treasures after her story is complete. Her adventures will take her around the world, from the Middle East to the Indian Ocean, from Greece to Austria, battling the forces of evil incarnate leading up to a deadly battle to stop Armageddon in the place Ariel's story began, the American Southwest.

Part fantasy epic, part reflection, part love story, part rollicking adventure, Dinétah Dragon has elements to suit every reader's taste.

The Advance Guard

Don A. Martinez

The fate of the world lies with four supernaturals, a Black Ops team of specialized agents who must work together against a demonic power.

Over the course of history, a team of four supernatural agents has been assembled for a Black Ops team unlike any other.

The Guardsman - a paladin knight present throughout Western history.

Cyrus Salem - a wizard who has fought with the U.S. throughout the 20th Century's wars.

Kitty Lazarus - a SEAL commander with the heart of a tiger and the body to match.

Ariel Vibria - a tortured soul linked to a modern dragon.

Both separately and together, these agents will face down an enemy of demonic origins and immense evil, with the fate of the world itself possibly in the balance. The agents must rise above their differences and individual traumas, coming together to face Sheol, a demonic matriarch hiding within one of the holiest sites in Europe.

Each agent has his own concerns. Is being the Guardsman worth the sacrifice of childhood Ken Sharpe made to be the paladin? Will Cyrus continue to shrink throughout history? What purpose does the Hindu god Durga have for Kitty? What will happen if the secretive government project that produced Ariel comes to search for their missing experiment?

Do they have a chance against Sheol?

The Hero Next Door

Don A. Martinez

Can superheroics and romance coexist when two heroes live next door to each other unawares?

Waterlink City: home of gang violence and corruption.

It is also home to the Roadmaster, the city's resident vigilante hero. Using a bizarre ability to talk to cars, he fights the gangs by night and fixes cars by day as mechanic Pablo Jimenez. Every motivation comes from the memory of his dead fiance, Elaine.

His world is turned upside down, though, by the appearance of Cynthia Yeager, his new next-door-neighbor with a secret identity of her own. As Mighty Mallard, she patrols the wetlands around the city, protecting its ducks from those who would cause them harm, legally or otherwise.

The two have chemistry as neighbors. They might be able to get along as crimefighters.

When the gangs intrude on Mighty Mallard, though, they will have to work together to stop an insidious plan to end the gangs which leaves much of the city in the crossfire ... and whose mastermind holds a particular connection to Pablo.

Complete in two acts, this stage play combines humor, action and spectacular effects to turn the superhero genre on its ear.

Sheryl - I'm through your first four chapters, and here's my thoughts. Wow, this is far more affecting than your typical crime/thriller novel. The feminist bent to the story helps to give it more impact. I also like how you have tended to vary up the narration styles depending on which of yo... view book

David - I'm through your first four chapters, and here's my thoughts. You do well with these four, taking into account that the only character who speaks any dialogue for three of them is Olwud. You have a grasp on the solitary life of a shepherd, that's for sure. Your descriptions are solid... view book

Simon - I'm through the first four chapters, and here's my thoughts. I'm quite impressed with the voice you've chosen for this work, especially as it's aimed to a YA audience. Death is one of those things that generally young adults *really* don't want to think about, and I'm quite happy that... view book

Janvier - I'm through your first three chapters and here's my thoughts. This book has an interesting premise in that it's an espionage/military history work that doesn't focus on the traditional subject nations (Britain, U.S.), instead choosing to focus on the French colonization that people t... view book

Team 2012 - To match your hyper-novel model, after reading the first chapter I skipped around to three others at random (11, 17 and 24), and here's my thoughts. I saw in your pitch how you compared this novel to "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" (and even reference it when you talk about the ... view book
