about me

Been here a while, not always in my present identity. Been number one talent spotter, got a gold star - so much more desirable than the new-fangled medal!

I'm not here as much as I'd like to be as I'm travelling for a few months and Internet access is in short supply.

Many of you, dear readers, will also know me by my former name, Jared Conway. My book, 'Mummy's Boy' reached the Editor's Desk in March 2010. I subsequently changed the title to Burn, Baby, Burn.

New book is a work in progress. You may note the MC isn't named. This is deliberate so no need to obsess about it.

My last book, Ramblings of a Deluded Soul, is now FREE on Kindle, both in US and UK.

In January, 2011, I published Burn, Baby, Burn as an e-book. Within a matter of weeks it was the number 3 book on the Amazon Kindle Thrillers chart, number 6 overall - the coveted 'All Books' Chart. In 2011 I sold in excess of 73,000 books. Big developments this year - see my blog.

Please feel free to email me - I may, or may not, reply.
jake@jakebarton.com

I may even respond to a friend request - it has been known.

Remember, Burn, Baby, Burn is now available as an E-Book - if you ever wanted to know what happened next in Mummy's Boy when it was on the site, find it on Amazon Kindle - just type in Jake Barton. They know me there!

Not Responsible

Jake Barton

I like killing people. That’s something they don't understand. Doctors want reasons for my behaviour. There’s only one reason: killing people is fun.

A man born to fight, born to kill and with the blood of battle in his veins is ‘a prisoner whose escape would make him a danger to the police, the public at large and the Government.’ If he ever gets out… When he gains his freedom, it’s with a purpose in mind. There are men out there with good reason to fear him. He’s the man with no name. The man officially classified as not responsible for his actions. Just the way he likes it.

Annoying, following the richly talented Bradley Wind when adding comments. I don't prejudge a book by reading the comments in advance; a system that occasionally lets me down when everything I had noted has aleady been mentioned by Bradley. Ah well, great minds, eh? A couple of things bear repeati... view book

This book and I are old friends. I read it when it first appeared on the site and was captivated by the quality of the writing and the message it conveyed. I've recently re-read all the chapters available here and my opinion hasn't changed: one of the best books I've read on this site and i'm amazed... view book

Good pitches and an excellent cover are a promising start and your opening chapter reads well. I like the small details like a voice calling out 'from a few cubits away.' There's a strong premise here and I've enjoyed the opening chapter. Unfortunately, whether because this is a work in progress or... view book

Craig, I'm not a fan of the Horror genre, but I've admired your talent as a writer for quite some time. You have the gift of finding the right word, the right phrase and you certainly know how to tell a story. Brilliant pitches; an object lesson in how to write an effective pitch. Short, snappy sent... view book

My word, this man can write! I'm only sorry I hadn't seen this book earlier. Exceptional. On my shelf with admiration and not a little envy. Jake view book
