about me

Moustache is model's own...

Louise On Life is an attempt to examine the pervasive narcissism that so many of my generation seem to have been struck down with. Most of this book is based entirely on other people. If I lived like this, I'd be dead within a week.

Looking for constructive criticism, will return the favour.

Louise On Life

Emma Cave

Convinced nothing is real until it is broadcast, Louise’s desire for the endless good times that validate her existence, starts to ruin it instead.

Louise lives in Brighton, a haven for all things hipster. She and her clique are paragons of alternative style, never out less than six nights a week. And her weekly blog posts ensure that everybody knows exactly how amazing life is, as well as attracting the constant attention she craves.

But her inability to decide between her current squeeze and an old flame soon sees Louise jilted and homeless, with nowhere to lay her hat but a series of sofa beds. After coasting along in disposable jobs, she messes up once too often and finds herself joining the queue at the Job Centre, rather than for the latest launch party.

This girl needs to get a grip and focus on the future. But in a world where getting on a guest list is considered a serious ambition, is she destined to spend the rest of her life at the shallow end?

Hugh Jarse - I love your name and I am starting to have very similar feelings for your book. Humour and dysfunction are such natural bedfellows and this makes light of some very dark subject matter. I'm not sure why people are referring to it as horror? Maybe I haven't read far enough yet. Or maybe ... view book

You've clearly got a cast-iron grip of English and a real knack for playing about with it. I think the abundance of words here is what made it difficult for me to read too much. It's all very clever, amusing and beautifully observed but I think there are parts that could do with paring down a little... view book

Hi KJ, The further I read, the more I enjoyed this. Although your first two chapters were intriguing, I felt there was more telling than showing, and we spent a little too much time in Roman's head. Then the story began to pick up, and so did my interest. I also really enjoyed the alternate world... view book

This is very good, Claire. You set the scene very competently, nothing feels extraneous or forced and your writing is smooth and confident. It's difficult to know the difference between showing and telling sometimes, but your writing is a great example of the latter. It really feels like you know wh... view book

Hi Janny, I've read the first five chapters and my eyes are stinging due to sudden contact lens rebellion, which is keeping, me from reading any further. But I wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed what I've read so far, and give you some feedback, which I hope you'll either find helpful or cheer... view book
