about me

Thanks for stopping by to check out NowHere. I hope you will enjoy it. If you want a quick overview, read the first two chapters, then jump to 11, 20, 25, 35, and then the last seven chapters. Many of them are short, but will give you the main characters and basic conflicts of the story. I am particularly interested in how the ending goes over with readers.
If you give me particular chapters of your book to read, I will try to do the same for you.

I recently deleted all of my friends - nothing personal, just tired of filling up my page with news feed. If we read and back each other, then we are friends - no need to announce it to the world.

I graduated from UC Santa Barbara with a BA in Fine Art, but I have always found great satisfaction in putting my thoughts into words as well as images. In fact, I started writing this novel while I was in college.
The process of writing this story has extended more than twenty years, not because it was difficult to write, but because my life choices led me away from the path of the writer.
My career as a commercial signmaker and my role as wife and mother have been very satisfying, but the characters lived in my mind, and their stories grew and changed along with my own.
Since 1994, I have honed my writing skills by contributing over thirty-five articles to Sign Business Magazine, focusing on sign shop management, stories of specific sign projects, and interviews with other signmakers.

Meanwhile, the world of NowHere evolved in a parallel universe, and finally emerged fully formed (though still evolving, thanks to this wonderful forum of authonomy).

NowHere

Mardeen Smyth Gordon

The Earth is dying, and Merrilee must survive with the help of the Websters and the fairies that flitter around the edges of NowHere.

For Merrilee, the world ends when the mushroom clouds rise in the distance, so she leaves it all behind to travel into the mountains, where she finds a Tribe of Websters who have been living there for years, preparing as if they had seen what was to come – and as she is initiated into their way of life, she discovers why.

She learns to enter into a trance state and travel to NowHere, where the consequences of each choice are visible, like shimmering threads in a web of time. While in NowHere, Merrilee is possessed by Gaia, the consciousness of the planet Earth, and the contact influences Merrilee as she works to weave a future beyond nuclear apocalypse. In the end, the reader must choose for themselves between seven possible endings, a rainbow of options that could each be developed into a full-fledged story of the Websters’ future.

Daniel, Your premise got me excited, though a bit worried whether you would be able to pull off the genius character and the world market intrigue convincingly. Then, I was pulled in by the genuine dialogue and Chris's mysterious actions, feeling like I was watching over Adam's shoulder and roo... view book

Bob, I've only had time to read one chapter of Conflicts of Interest so far, but I am eager to come back for more. Your style is solid, smooth and recognizable. I am attracted to David right off the bat and feel that I am introduced to him gradually but clearly without feeling forced, kind of like ... view book

The use of present tense is a conscious decision which has relevance to the entire content of the story. It is actually quite difficult to maintain consistently, since it is natural to tell a story as if it happened in the past. But this story is happening in the Now and Here, and I want the reader ... view book

John, Thanks for reading it again. I thought you would like the new beginning better. I do, too. I had a lot of fun with Mr. Diehl, and couldn't wait to kill him off in the second chapter. The only problem with using italics for the letter is that Merrilee's thoughts have been in italics so far, a... view book

I am glad I finally dove in for a read. The first chapter is short and gripping, perfectly suited for Authonomy as well as the casual browser in the supermarket aisle. When this book makes it into paperback, it will find its way into a many a hand traveling on airplanes and laying on beaches. In oth... view book
