about me

My writing is inspired by the beauty of the Ozarks, where magic is steeped and hidden in the hollers.

My favorite genre to read and write is Fantasy.

I want honest feedback - if you see mistakes or errors, or things that just don't make sense, I'd like to know. The manuscript isn't polished, so there will be a lot to find.

***Note: I am in the process of rewriting. It's also why you may notice I am reading less and spending less time wandering about the forums. So, I'm ignoring red arrows for the time being and will return to start clawing my way up again later.***

A little about me: I work full-time as a metals analyst for a small environmental laboratory and write my first draft the old-fashioned way, with pen and paper, during lunch hour. Being in a lab makes it easy to walk around talking to myself. We're all nuts in there and no one pays any mind. Besides writing, I love being in the outdoors, horses, gardening, and photography.

favourite books

Amber Chronicles, by Roger Zelazny
Mists of Avalon
the Shannara series, by Terry Brooks
The Talisman, by Peter Straub and Stephen King
On Writing, by Stephen King
Interview With a Vampire, Anne Rice
The Witching Hour, by Anne Rice
Lasher, by Anne Rice

I love Stephen King's voice and style but cannot stand to read horror if it is set in the real world and the horrific is the basis of the story. Nightmares, you know.

I read your first chapter and found it very interesting. Your culture is rich and you do have a lot to share. If I get time to come back, I would like to read more. I feel like I have learned something by reading this, thank you. Madison view book

Hi, I read the first poem/story about the sounds that animals make. It's a very unique take on a question I never thought to ask, but I'm sure young children would love it. The rhthym is good for reading aloud. view book

Dawn, I loved the first chapter. It's the first time I've read from the perspective of a horse and it's wonderful. This was a very enjoyable read and I hope you do well with it. Madison Woods - Retribution view book

This was a very interesting first chapter and the activities at the ball were described in a way that helped me see it. I didn’t see you mention what music was being played, other than the quadrille, but I could have heard it too, if you would include that sensory detail. My comments might not be... view book

Great opening chapter with an enticing hook on both ends. I found nothing to nitpick here. If I had more time to read on, I would. Great read! Madison Woods - Retribution view book
