about me

I'm an eternally frustrated writer lacking the energy when the time permits, or the time when the energy permits, to do justice to the craft.

The ambition to write has burned for many years, but has been parked for want of retirement age or the time to focus on the ideas that have bubbled for decades.

The New York Diaries

Craig Brown

The only time my wife ever shouted at me was when I said it'd be good to live in New York; right after 9/11

Before the attack on the Twin Towers, we had decided that New York was the place for us. My company had a role for me, it was an exciting new challenge in a vibrant country with a culture I'd yearned for, and new horizons lay before us.

Then came Al Qaeda's attacks and all bets were off; we waxed and waned about the move, until finally, having agreed we wouldn't go, I changed my mind leading to the outburst of frustration from my good lady wife.

What followed for me was a reconnaisance, a period alone in the Big Apple (well, New Jersey at least), finding my feet and laying the foundations for a move. The New York Diaries are a record of that time - a time when I came to realise just how true the statement, "two countries separated by a common language" was to prove.

Together Again: A momentary me....

Craig Brown

From the grief of loss comes a heartfelt expression of love; and comfort to those that have known the same.

Being 9,000 miles from the ones you love can be tough, it is tougher still when one of them is dying and you cannot be there to provide support and comfort. This is the story of a brave woman's battle with a malignant disease and her family's struggle to help with the fight. Told by her son as a means of coping with his grief, we are transported from bustling New York to sleepy Otaki, New Zealand on a journey that takes us through despair, laughter and hope; and when all seems lost, we are left with the resounding echo of love. This book is for anyone that has struggled with the grief of losing a loved one and who wants to know that they're not alone.

Nice writing style and pace, although the genre is not one to which I typically gravitate. view book

Fantastic pace Abigail. "Relic" grabbed me from the first page and piqued my curiosity from the off. I'm intrigued to know more of Tisha's fate. Craig view book

Hi Rodney Sorry to hear of your losses, that's really tough. The posting I've made is my piece in its entirety and, I guess for me, it wasn't a question of whether I could or couldn't write it, it was a compulsive act, when at its conclusion, there just didn't seem anymore that I should add. ... view book
