about me

Writing from Far North Queensland. I read when I can, and I pass comment where I think it is valuable. I don't know it all, and everything I say is my opinion, not some kind of hard and fast rule. Mainly I'm still trying to get my own books right. I'll let you know if I ever think it's happened, meanwhile anyone is free to point out where they think I could do better. People seem to like TFR more than IP, but I'm the other way round. Maybe I'm not normal.

If you want me to look at your book, be prepared for honesty. But also remember that one person's opinion doesn't matter much, unless they're the one who signs your advance cheque.

The Irish Pub: Is a collection of self contained short stories about a small pub in Paris. I selected Comedy as its genre, though Farce would be more appropriate, an option not available. It's not full of jokes and one liners, is what I'm saying, but it should prove an amusing read.

BHG Crit I've read as far as the end of the 3rd chapter and I find I am very confused. It sounds as if you know where you're going, but I'm having trouble following. Technically the writing is fine. Each sentence in and of itself is perfectly well written. I come unstuck when I try to understand ... view book

Hi Joe, BHCG Review: I read the first three chapters, and I liked first two. In terms of plot I am now rather confused, and I might possibly read on at some stage, but the rather dry resume nature of chapter three is quite off-putting. Let us, then concentrate on the first two chapters, which... view book

BH crit Plot: In general a story with potential. I have questions after two chapters and if I was the kind of person who found love triangles interesting I'm sure I'd read on. I'm not really, but that's just because I'm not in the target readership. Voice: I can hear the Irish idiom. It flows ... view book

BH Crit. I was going so well too. And then he said Xander, and I realised this was another of those books where chapter two is shoved in front of chapter one as some sort of half arsed prologue. Or at least, that's what it looks like. Otherwise the narrative is pretty good. It's not my kind o... view book

BH Crit I read chapter one. This has a lot of promise if there is room for another YA vampire book. This is also the second book I've read here that starts with a footrace. I'm not sure this really counts as getting us straight into the action and I'm a bit concerned it may be cliche. However,... view book
