about me

I live in the Kansas City area with 6 kids (7 if you count the husband, but I still love him!) and one small, black dog. I love to read, play the piano, walk and exercise, and have recently decided to try my hand at writing my favorite genre...romance.

****************Recent updates***************

I apologize for such a long absence everyone! Our youngest daughter had the stomach flu in December and developed something called ITP soon after, which is some sort of auto immune disorder. Or nightmare, rather. She has only recently stabilized, so I am just now getting back to authonomy and will try to get to all messages and start reading books again. Thanks so much to those who have still been out here leaving messages and supporting my stories. I truly do appreciate each and every one of you!
**************************************************************

I have just uploaded a revised Chapter 1 for A Duke from the Past (11/8/10). The story sits at roughly 85,000 words and is complete. I am working on edits for the remainder of the chapters that are already on Authonomy as well (not all of them are), so look for those soon.

And I have added another story I have written, The Scandalous Tutor, which is complete also and sits at approx. 103,000 words. But I have only uploaded the first 5 chapters for feedback at this time since I have not had time to edit the remainder of the story.

I also have four other stories, in various stages of completion that I have been working hard on, and they will be here one day soon as well, awaiting the wise critique of my fellow Authonomites!

Thanks to all of the wonderful people that have taken the time to read, make comments on, and back my stories. I GREATLY appreciate it and am happy to return the favor!

****Here's how I back a book I like****

I read the first few chapters and if I like it, I back it. Then, I finish reading the rest of the story when I get a chance. Sometimes I offer a comment, but not always. But rest assured, if I bothered to back it, I really like it! I just don't always have a comment because a lot of these works I read out here speak for themselves. They are all so unique and great. It is amazing to read all these stories that come from peoples vivid imaginations.

But in addition to the above, I have now started keeping people's books on my shelf for about the same length as they keep mine on theirs. In essence, I mirror the backing of yours with mine. After all, it seems only fair and I think it is wise to keep an even playing field for all, don't you? I've notice a lot of people wanting me to keep their book on my shelf for long periods whilst keeping mine on for far shorter a time. Com'on....

Anyway, if anyone has any critique they want to pass along on my story, not only do I welcome it, I need it! Having said that (and much more), feel free to back it if you still like it in general...don't be shy! Remember, we are all struggling and hopeful writer wannabe's and could all use each others support!

Cheers!

Love the Janet Evanovich Stephanie Plum series. Patricia Cornwell, Stephen King, Nora Roberts, JD Robb Eve Dallas series, Christina Dodd....All great authors and love all their writings. Never read a romance novel I didn't like. The cheesier the better! I stick to fiction mostly. I get enough of the real world in the real world. Especially if one turns on the news.

An Indecent Wager

Shelly Palmer

Can a handful of winning cards in a game of chance lead to true love?

Braden, a highly decorated naval officer, finds himself holding the ultimate hand of cards. But he gets more than the money he was promised with the wager, and soon realizes he's in a situation he hadn't bargained for, nor desired.

Kendra, a spirited young woman who seems to be forever living in the shadows of her five older brothers, wakes up one morning to discover that her eldest brother has promised her, and all that goes with her, to a stranger in a game of poker.

Each has their own reasons for going through with what appears to be an inescapable union, but tension quickly relinquishes itself to attraction, and the white-hot passion that follows can't be evaded.

But as wedding bells approach, Kendra suddenly discovers Braden has had an ulterior motive from the beginning, one that threatens the very happiness she, and ultimately he, could have.

A game of chance has put them both on the road of destiny, but will they end up in the same place at the end of the torrid journey?

The Scandalous Tutor

Shelly Palmer

Passion ignites when a beautiful young woman is forced to take French lessons from a handsome rogue.

Vivienne is a sweet young woman who is considered to be "on the shelf" and is subsequently pawned off to a Frenchman, whom she’s never met. Part of the bargain is that she must learn French before the man will wed her, a detail she sees as a way out of the miserable predicament.

Ian is one of London’s more notorious rakes. The second son of a marquess, he has many talents, which besides being a language tutor, is an escort to the lonely ladies of the upper-crust. He has been retained by the Earl of Norwich to teach his daughter French in a hurry, and for a great deal of cash.

Instant attraction on both sides sets the stage for a torrid romance to unfold as the two strive to solve the many problems that come to fruition as their budding relationship blossoms into something more.

Secrets reveal themselves as they struggle to make their way through the murkiness of life’s sometimes harsh lessons, realizing they both are after the same thing…true love.

A Duke from the Past

Shelly Palmer

A feisty nurse from the present meets a debonair duke from the past, and sparks soon ignite a century divided romance.

Nina is a beautiful, and often lonely, ER nurse from Chicago. Remington is a handsome aristocrat residing in England, who just inherited a title he wants nothing more than to cast away.

Fate, and a back door to an antique store that has more to it than meets the eye, brings them together and they soon learn that a great deal more separates them than just the vast Atlantic.

Thrust into a world foreign and unknown, Nina struggles to adapt to her “new” surroundings and companions, only to realize she is quickly falling for the proper, and super handsome, duke.

Remington dutifully tries to fill his new role and immediately discovers it is no easy task, especially when a fiery beauty from America shows up to distract him with her audacious and intriguing behavior.

The spark of passion that ignites between them is impossible for either to ignore and they embark on a journey through the very fabric of time, both dealing with their own personal demons along the way, to emerge on the opposite side understanding just how hard it is to bridge the gap that stands between them.

What a spectacular opening (albeit somewhat frightening!) Vivid scene descriptions, great dialogue, easy flow makes for a great read, which I felt this book was. It pulled me in from the start and made me want to continue to read, the hallmark of a superb book. I love historical fiction, and if t... view book

Alison, Thanks so much for the kind feedback you offered on my story. I have backed your story before as well, and happily redeposited it back on my book shelf. I loved your story. I don't read a lot of sci-fi, but I really liked the premise of your book. There is always a strong draw when it comes to humans in a futuristic world like this and I was immediately drawn in. There are a few edits that need to be made, small things like punctuation and spelling, but other than t... view book
