about me

I own a small motel and bed and breakfast on Lake Michigan in a lovely vacation spot.

I have a body of published work, but have had a long long dry spell. Writing is my passion, though, and my training.

I would love to exchange critiques. I promise to be quite prompt. I am a slow but careful reader, so my edit will likely be of your first chapter. I write fast though; I don't understand why the one and not the other.

That's me on the floor. The other four are grandchildren. One came all the way from Ethiopia to be my grandchild.

favourite books

The Grapes of Wrath, John Steinbeck, the most beautifully written book I know.
Accidental Tourist, Anne Tyler; I love all her books. When I need to learn technique, I go to her.
The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald. I love Zelda
The Bell Jar, Sylvia Plath. A tragic blazing star.
Little Women, Louise May Alcott, read it repeatedly on and on as a child.
Rebecca, Daphne du Maurier.
P.D. James, all her mysteries

What would it be like to suffer a train accident in childhood that drops your IQ from 130 to 79?

What if you didn't want to grow up to be president, but rather, a waitress, and you failed at that, then what? Angela copes with these challenges and begs God to make her smart. She needs to be smart to figure out what to do when her husband is attracted to their neighbor. She has to figure out how to keep her second child, despite her mother's demands that she abort it and place it out for adoption.

Will God actually reconfigure Angela’s mind to restore her intelligence? If not, will Angela gain understanding enough to accept her limitations?

Complete at 80,000 words.

LIsa, You are a poet--that is vividly apparent in the pitch and C 1. You are a sister in heart as your MC is Angela and so is mine. I read the pitch and ch 1 a couple of times because I loved them and I wanted to look for some critique. I will only give a few suggestions if I think the wor... view book

I'm reading and love it, but had to pause and back you, so I could be 230 which is a heck of a great #. Muriel view book

Lovely use of phrases and of verbs. The situation is terrible and heartbreaking. My thought is that the phrases and thoughts and concepts seem more mature than those of a five year old. Basically, I feel a problem with voice. In my own book, I am on the umpteenth draft, all due to trying to get... view book

Good grief! There is no way to stop reading at the end of the prologue--the intrigue and all of it is aimed to interest us readers. I am going to back quite happily. I can't say why exactly, but I think find the opening though bold and scary, somehow a little flat. That is because I am not... view book
