about me

I am an introvert.

And THANK YOU, everyone, for all your thoughts, ideas, and support over the past couple months!

Independence is now complete.

MARCH 2009 UPDATE! My watchlist is FULL, and I am WAY BEHIND on my reading -- and I'm not going to be able to catch up any time soon, as I'm tied up with writing at the moment. And so, my HUGE APOLOGIES to everyone, but I CANNOT TAKE ANY NEW READ REQUESTS right now, nor until I've acquitted myself better with the manuscripts in my queue; books on my watchlist have already waited longer than a plausible human lifespan, and I can't make the situation any worse!

favourite books

I don't even know where to begin with this! I might have to stick more with favorite published authors than books (in no particular order)...

Dostoyevsky. Charlotte Bronte. Dashiell Hammett. Voltaire. Gordon Woods. Philip K. Dick. Yukio Mishima. Neal Stephenson. Patrick O'Brian. Thomas Hardy. Victor Hugo. Charles Dickens. Gene Wolfe. J. G. Ballard. Kurt Vonnegut. Mark Twain. Patricia Highsmith. Franz Kafka. Goethe. Esther Forbes. Jack Black (not the ACTOR! the guy who wrote "You Can't Win"). And many, many more, only I'd better stop at SOME point!

Ah, Genevieve -- it was worth waiting for. I meant to read one chapter just for the flavor...and now I'm through chapter 14, and that's all there is! Let me know if you put more up ;) ... This is beautifully written, and the world feels both fully realized and compelling. The vulgar yet powerful Graemor is QUITE creepy and ominous enough to lend an active sense of threat to the story, even if we didn't have Olivia's strange partial memories of her former life (???) and ability to se... view book

Hi Lizzi! Okay, six chapters in, and I'm hooked. The beginning of this story was more subtle than I realized until after the fact -- I couldn't help sympathizing with Kristen, even though she was a bit full of herself (hey, an actress pretty much HAS to be that way), because she was so obviously d... view book

Margaret, this has such a lovely sense of melancholy -- every sadness mixed with hope, and every hope with loss. The set-up, secretly noble twins separated at birth, could be pure melodrama (which I will admit I would have liked anyway), but the delicacy and depth of your writing keep this from hap... view book

Hi Patrick! I'm not sure what I was expecting exactly -- but definitely not a sort of agricultural Clouseau. At first, the dry humor was pleasantly amusing; and then a weird thing happened. By degrees, and I'm not sure whether this is just a cumulative effect, it became flamingly hilarious. OO, ... view book
