about me

I am a retired lecturer in English Literature. Unable to resist the appeal of coming across new talent, I am here to explore unknown territory and perhaps give some useful advice, here and there. I shall not respond to requests to read (I always leave cold-callers hanging) but if I come across work that moves me I may comment. My days of detailed analysis are, thankfully, over!

One of the joys of this site is to watch a novel evolve as the weeks go by. I had identified WHERE SHE LIES as a unique work, worthy of publication, some time ago. However, it has been polished handsomely even since then and I have no doubt this work, and this talented author will go far. There are ... view book

I particularly like the change in style and pace between the first chapter and the second of this masterful book. The short sentences and simple language of the first stands against the flowing beautifully descriptive textures of the second. As to historical accuracy, I find no fault here. A very in... view book

This is a fascinating, gripping novel that I have thoroughly enjoyed. The pace is excellent, varied so carefully. The plot and descriptions are perfect. I shall read on. view book

A tense, powerfully written work covering a fascinating period of history. I will have to read more of this. view book
