A surrealist painter becomes a target for conservatives while his father fights cancer. He finds it's a difficult world to love in.
Michael is a fetish surrealist painter with an eye for social commentary. When his paintings exploring tolerance, love and faith raise the attention of conservative Christians, he becomes a target. At the same time his father is diagnosed with cancer, his sister's husband leaves her to alcoholism and he must choose between his promising career, his family, and his girlfriend, Claire. The stress leads to an aneurysm which puts him in a coma. When he wakes, he finds both his parents have passed, his sister is saved, and it has affected his ability to speak and restrain himself, but he finds his ability to express himself has gained a telepathic power. His anger leads to a split between him and his girlfriend while he is being hunted by a lone religious assassin. As his career picks up and he becomes increasingly erratic personally, Claire leaves him. As his power grows, so does his obsession with her, and he finds it's a difficult world to love in.
