about me

I'm in my 'very' late twenties, married with one small child.

** I don't read mis-lit or anything where children are hurt/abused etc. So, please don't ask. **

FORFEIT
I only have Chapters 1-8 uploaded but Forfeit is complete so if you'd like read the end... you can.

DISTRACTION
This is my Work in Progress. I'm interested in general thoughts on the characters, style, plot idea - not nit picking at this stage.

I'd like to thank everyone who's supported Forfeit along the way. Big thanks to Nat, Evie, Stacey and NRT for the editing help and Rob for being my biggest fan. :)

Distraction

Caroline Batten

Ding, dong, the witch is dead, the ballerina’s broken and the vet’s in disgrace. Living in the Lakes is going to be murder.

dis•trac•tion (n)
1. A thing that diverts attention
2. Extreme mental or emotional disturbance

When Patrick’s photographed in flagrante with a local beauty queen, his father delivers an ultimatum: one more newspaper scandal and Patrick will be disowned; no house and no job at the family veterinary practice. Desperate not to lose his easy life in the country, Patrick needs to avoid trouble – and girls like Libby.

Until she moved to the Lakes, Libby, a self-proclaimed goody-two-shoes, had never had sex on a first date, let alone indulged in a one-night-stand but after a fling with a celebrity and an affair with a married man, her morals unravel causing the local rag to dub her ‘The Libertine’.

But Libby’s the least of Patrick’s problems when an old lady dies from a ketamine overdose. The drug was stolen from his surgery and she’s the third pensioner to die in as many months.

Tongues will wag.

Forfeit

Caroline Batten

When Daisy plays Forfeit she gambles with money, morals and the man of her dreams – but is he really the dashing hero she thinks?

Living in the country was supposed to be tranquil…

When Daisy’s Hollywood husband dies, she packs her waterproofs and returns to the Lake District. She’s looking for comfort from friends and a quiet life away from the media. What she finds is a Knight-in-Shining-Polo-Boots.

Xander knocks her for six at the village fete, and she enters his world of It-girls and Michelin stars. At a party, embracing the escapism, Daisy agrees to play Forfeit. Five friends each toss £100 onto the table and complete the facetious dares.

Round One was a fun way to pass an hour, Round Two was not for the faint-hearted, but surely no one would stake £10,000 to play Round Three – not without persuasion, at least.

£50,000 is up for grabs but the game is called Forfeit for good reason. Daisy has no idea that her relationship with Xander is what’s really at stake.

Blackmail, betrayal, revenge – happy-ever-after will have to wait.

Tranquil is so overrated.

*

Forfeit is complete at 125,000 words.

Crikey, this is addictive. I came for a nosey, saw you'd tagged it with Chick Lit and read five chapters. :) Will give it some shelf time soon. Loved the scenes in Whitby, and the cosiness of the grandparents by comparison. Can I throttle Terry, and strangle the mum for not leaving? Poor Georgia. ... view book

Why did this get knocked out of Mayhem? Seriously. Pitch - does the job. It does. It's short but effective. Writing - pretty bloody slick. I'm not a massive fan of the 'He was jiggling... and it was irritating her...' opening, but I like that it's repeated later. Characters - hmmm... I'm get... view book

Pitches: SP: Honeysuckle Jones is always in the middle. The middle sister. The middle friend. But the middle is about to become a lot more interesting… ~ I don’t get why being in the middle is the ‘thing’. She’s not going to be in the middle of something. I think the Orgasm Gene should make i... view book

What a heartbreaking and warming story. I have a three year-old and it terrifies me how easy this can happen to our children. Much love Cx view book
