I Wish I Loved You Less

Celeste Bott

As a mother, a daughter, and an entire community await the aftermath of a political scandal, secrets are revealed and relationships are altered forever.

Cassie Rivers understands what it’s like to survive: thanks to a heart transplant, she can finally open herself up to the possibility of a long life. Her future looks bright, with both an admission to a prestigious university and a boy who loves her. Not like Jade Morrison, the wife of the unfaithful governor Scott Morrison, who gave up a career and motherhood for a marriage that could end in fidelity.

But just when Cassie begins to pity the scorned wife, her own life falls to pieces. Her parents announce their separation. Her brother has fallen in love with a woman twice his age. Her father, a police officer, is shot in the line of duty. And then she finds her birth certificate and learns that her biological father is not the man he’s known all her life, but her mother’s best kept and most tragic secret.

A story about about six women—a mother, a daughter, a woman scorned, a career-driven mistress, a widow looking for answers, and a politician's wife—I Wish I Loved You Less is a testament to the enduring, devastating power of choice, and how our choices influence those we love.

An unconventional story that disregards the Hollywood happy ending and focuses on real characters, genuinue friendship, honest struggles and unrequited love.

Sam is an athlete turned journalist, struggling to care for his ailing father. Paul is a pianist with commitment issues and a young daughter. Liam is a failed musician trying to do right by his fiancee, and Chris is a divorced professor who feels cheated in every aspect of his life. What do they have in common? They’ve all been in love with one woman, Annabel Singer, who abandoned them on her own college graduation five years ago with no communication since.
Originally brought together by the pressures of a rigorous boarding school, they’ve since grown apart after entering the real world. Now they must come together for Liam’s wedding to Josie, a waitress and young mother who was once Annabel’s loveable but easily overshadowed best friend. As they gather for one unforgettable weekend, the group chronicles the years that led up to their reunion while also waiting for Annabel, a category unto herself, the beautiful enigma who broke their boyhood hearts. She would forever be the one woman they all loved and lost, despite her agonizing self-destruction and the heartbreaking secrets that brought it about, as well as the tragedy that caused her to disappear, possibly forever…

Tommy's story really touched me, Neville. I've only read about half of it so far just to get a sample of the work, and not only is the story sharp but it made me want to finish. Which I plan to. Job well done! You've been on my shelf several days and I hope you have deservedly reaped the benefit... view book
