about me

I write and edit technical content for a living. In my spare time, one might assume I'd prefer to do something else, but I find myself writing mystery and suspense.

My characters seem to tell their own stories, I'm never quite sure what they will do next. Thankfully, they do not take themselves too seriously, so readers should get a smile as well as a few unexpected twists and turns.

I am interested in working with an agent, and in self-publishing. I plan to self-publish a collection of short stories.

Bitnapped!

J. T. Carroll

Abducted and held captive, two software engineers have only hours to free themselves and prevent the kidnapper from stealing six million dollars from their company.

Poor wisecracking Kelly blundered into a kidnapping. And not just any kidnapping, that of her despised boss, Rupert. Ignorant of their rocky relationship, the kidnapper, Yuri, brings Kelly along as leverage. Yuri wants Rupert out of the way so he can steal six million from Bytewise, Rupert's software company.

Rupert and Kelly need all of their technical skills and cunning to prevent the theft and avoid bloodshed. Nothing in their collective life-experience has prepared them to deal with violence. Can two software developers beat criminals at their own game and emerge unscathed? The clock is ticking.

Hi, Finally got the chance to read the first few chapters. You've developed quite a cold-blooded character! It will be interesting to see whether he has any redeeming qualities later in the narrative. My first impression matches what I noticed in a few other comments, that the first chapters lead... view book

I enjoyed reading, Chameleon made my bookshelf! A couple of minor things I noticed: The short and long pitches don't really do the story justice. If you tweak them, you might get more readers willing to delve into chapter 1! If you'd like specific details let me know. I got the feeling th... view book

Lovely evocative writing! I can see why this book is headed for the editor's review. I did find that the lovely moods and rhythms were interrupted somewhat by the bouncing back and forth in time and POV. You might consider consolidating so there is less of that. Maybe confine each chapter to one ti... view book

Great story! I'm up to chapter 6 and have to keep going. I like Eddie and am fully invested in learning who killed the poor widow. I'd love to know what you think of my book, Bitnapped! J. T. Carroll view book

I just finished chapter "1", really 1-3, and I can see why this caught the attention of so many readers. The narrative is rich and compelling, I look forward to reading more. Only a few passages gave me pause: 1) Would a twelve year old boy describe the light of a lamp as a glowing golden daf... view book
