Majorca Murder Mystery

Duane March

During a Friday night pub quiz a man is fatally poisoned in a room full of quiz-takers.
No one notices how.

Sun, sand, beautiful women and a puzzling murder: what better combination to seduce the holiday traveller or the Majorca fan to buy and to devour this story? Majorca Murder Mystery will appeal to the millions of island tourists.

The centre of events is a British bar in Illetas and its small but international group of regulars. The narrator serves as quiz master for the bar’s Friday pub quizzes and his life on Majorca has settled into a pleasant routine until the evening Felipe appears.

Felipe is handsome, charming and intelligent. Women easily fall for him, and men resent that. Two women, however, are affected quite differently. Both Evelyn and Pilar were once in a relationship with Felipe. Manuel, Pilar’s boyfriend, becomes jealous. One day, Felipe humiliates Manuel. Only days later, during a Friday pub quiz, Felipe is murdered.

Inspired by Agatha Christie mysteries, the narrator feels the need to solve an intellectual challenge: Who killed Felipe?

Jealousy, love, hate and loyalty are all aspects of the case. When he gets the decisive break, he arranges to present his solution to a packed bar during his Friday pub quiz two weeks after Felipe’s death.

Kings and Tyrants

Duane A March

An historical novel, the first of a planned five volume series (Empire of the Medes), set in Ancient Greece.

Kings and Tyrants is the first (covering the years 571-546 BCE) of a planned a 5-volume historical novel set in ancient Greece, culminating in its epochal confrontation with the Persian Empire, a confrontation which the Greeks - against all odds - won.

This novel series covers a number of dramatic events and persons including:

§ -- The Great Kings Cyrus, Darius, etc. of the Persian Empire
§ --The tyrants of Greece and the rise of democracy in Greece
§ -- The "Persian Wars", incl. the epic battles of Marathon, Salamis and Plateia

It is comparable in scope and organization to Colleen McCullough's Masters of Rome series.

Had the Greeks been reduced to Persian subjects, the development of "Classical Greece" would have been aborted, and such vital contributions to western civilization as democracy, Greek literature, the philosophies of Socrates and Aristotle, and the phenomenon of Alexander the Great would never have been. The entire development of Rome and its legacy to western civilization, even the development of Christianity could have taken a very different form.

Hi Najwa, well, I am exactly of your opinion as far as the genre and readability go. This was my intent: a sort of Agatha Christie style with a modern twist. A book one can enjoy also while traveling, lying on a beach, etc... I am working on a revision. After receiving some comments I have come t... view book

Hi Nagwa, I really like this kind of book and am reading with interest! I have to agree with Susanna.K.James about the lastparagraph of you pitch. I've lived in the Middle East, so I understand where you are coming from, but you can get the point across better. First, you say: "She is on a two-fo... view book

Hi Karen, I love the story, the premiss and Isabel. This is a wonderful tale. I hope your book "makes it" here: if not, you will find an agent to represent you for certain. It's on my SHELF! Cheers, Duane view book

Hi Lucy! Well, your last comment first: that's exactly what I'm going for - entertaining reading for nighttime or for travelers on the airplane or on vacation. I'll have to think about reducing the voice of the MC... Agatha Christie used "Captain Hastings" in this role quite well, but maybe I'm ov... view book
