about me

Amanda Greenslade is an aspiring fantasy novelist who writes for entertainment, enlightenment and escapism. In her Astor Chronicles, she presents a world where spiritual magic is part of everyday life, from the shape-changing Rada to the flame-wielding Zeikas. If you enjoy high fantasy with tonnes of action and thoughtful dialogue, this is a great series for you.

I am quite busy so I will only read books on Authonomy that genuinely interest me (fantasy and sci-fi). I only read the first 3 chaps usually, unless it is really flawless prose and it grips me. I will only back something I think is worthy of being on the editors' desks for consideration.

Is it well written and edited? Is it exciting? Is it original or unique in some way? Is it saleable? These are some important questions to ask yourself before you start submitting your work anywhere.

Talon

Amanda Greenslade

Talon must fight for the survival of his people, who are given amazing gifts of bonding with animals, weapons and flying skyearls.

What could be better than bonding with a ferocious icetiger, meeting a red-haired warrior woman and being sent on a diplomatic mission to the greatest city in the world?

With burgeoning telepathic abilities, 19-year-old Talon travels with Rekala and Sarlice to the city of Telby. Their mission? To seek help for the people of Jaria against their zealous enemies, the Zeikas. With their exile no longer in effect, the Zeikas are moving in on Jaria, other nations of the Kriite faith... and on Talon. Although his gifts make him a valuable asset in the war, if he is captured, he could become a weapon to be wielded against all Kriites who use the telepathic waves.

Faced with betrayal, capture and near-constant pursuit, Sarlice and Talon blaze across Telby, fighting their way to reach Tanza, a distant Kriite nation. Tanza is shrouded in mystery, protected by a magical barrier and guarded by the colourful, furred skyearls who patrol the skies. But when raiding Zeikas and their dragons start using human sacrifices to break through the barrier, Tanza is drawn into the most epic battle of this age. Talon's arrival is a miracle, but will it be enough?

Thanks Barry. I think you're right so I have just rewritten the pitch. It's one thing to write a novel, but something completely different to learn the art of writing good pitches, summaries, blurbs and other marketing copy that grabs a reader's attention. There are seven books in the series, and th... view book

In this second chapter, my interest is still maintained, but nothing much has happened. I feel that you are perhaps dwelling in too much detail, focusing on too many mundane things, but I do appreciate the effort it takes to fill in the gaps properly (gaps like walking to the stables, riding down a ... view book

What a great first chapter, Jim. Your characters are intriguing and different yet in a familiar enough setting to please the medieval fan in me. The amount of detail you use is just right and the dialogue is in keeping with the era. I am already interested to see what is in store for Ashfalath and t... view book
