about me

Since retiring from law I devote my spare time to writing. “Trapped” is my first book and I have two other books in various states of completeness. "Happiness Matters" is the second, in which I reflect on how we can all find joy and and fulfillment; "Making Miracles" completes the series of three.

I live with my husband Eddie and my daughter Seline. When I am not catching up on my sleep, I read, write, sing in the shower and dance where no-one can see me. Seline would like to have a cat, but I think that would be unfair on the local population of birds. She would also like a dog, but I suspect it would end up taking me for walks.

I am immensely grateful for all the generous support I receive on Authonomy. Because of you, "Trapped" has now been selected for review. I am so, so happy about that. I shall make the review public. Meantime I am still here.

Fran Macilvey

I am Fran - a woman with cerebral palsy, a "spastic". Every day I crash painfully to the ground, smile and get up again.

One of my favourite trips landed me at the feet of a professor I was in love with. He was a handsome, well-spoken gentleman who politely asked, “Can I help you up?” I didn’t mind his hands on me at all.

If I’m lying spread-eagled in a slippery gutter with my head perilously close to swerving taxis, it’s not so easy to smile and reassure those who ask, “Are you alright?” I have always walked a tightrope between my hopes, my dreams for an ordinary life and bruising reality which often takes me down to earth with a bump. Behind the façade of my ordinary life I hide a struggle with endless compromises which left me unhappy for many years.

These days I am no longer bitter and twisted, just unsteady on my feet. Somewhere along the way, I discovered the transforming power of forgiveness and love. My unique true story shows us how joy and fulfilment can flower in places where we least expect to find them.

Dear Lorraine I have just been reading the first two chapters of "The Pencil Case" and shall be watch listing this and reading more when I have time. What a story! Dear Tod Thanks so much for inviting me to take another look at "The Lost Wink". I read the first three chapters again...and I am very glad I did! What wonderful, inventive story-telling, which you have worked very hard to make easy to read and age appropriate. I find it easier to read, too, and ... view book

Dear Donna I am reading more of your story, chapter 8 and some of 9 though now I have to stop. I cannot believe your mother treated you so cruelly, and so harshly. Did she believe this was the best way to motivate a small child, when children only want to please their parents? Instead you were fr... view book

Dear Ben I've just finished reading to the end of chapter 12. You continue to inform, and your straightforward style is so accessible, I cannot help just reading on. You begin to flesh out well, as a thoughtful boy with principles and integrity. You seem to have been largely left alone to dea... view book
