In art, as is life, I've always been one to go for the cheap laugh, but I admire books where humor is implied by situation, with no overt gags or mocking of characters. Armed and Unnatual, however, is joyfully asinine.

Get Out of Town

Kathleen Kiepert

When Christian shot the football team's llama, he knew the jocks were going to pound the crap out of him, even more so than usual.

Bullied at school and pitied at home, Christian Labeau is a fat, arty teenager who feels out of place in a small town that loves Field And Stream persuits. When he accidentally shoots the llama that serves as his high school's mascot, he makes plans to flee the area before his classmates find out who did it. Helped along by some small-town satanists, a group of geezer vigilantes, and the spirits of the low-I.Q. pioneers who founded the town, he finally finds his way and triumphs over his oppressors.

Armed and Unnatural

Kathleen Kiepert

Rock Lockheed, special agent, knows that dynamite can't be used against evil mummies or Human Resources. That's really going to complicate his mission.

What is the Kremlin's greatest weakness? What is the best way to handle a vampire with a didactic bent ? Rock Lockheed, secret agent, may not be the brightest, but he knows the answers to both these mysteries. Follow him as he handles cases too sensitive or bizarre for the CIA to tackle, like thwarting a kleptomaniac mummy or helping the gentle, trusting Josef Stalin save the world from bloodsuckers. Rock's life will be threatened many times, but two things are certain: he will escape death by making an innocuous last request and he will meet beautiful women along the way.

An intriguing setup with a likable, unexpected sort of protagonist and a nice mix of supporting characters. You do a fine job of embedding clues that keep the reader wanting to know more. The scene where the widow is "attacked" by the skeleton is a great opener. You are truly a master of the hook. I... view book

This is one of the finest books I've read on Authonomy to date. The humor is done just right and the premise is original. Probably the greatest tribute I can give your work (or any other book, for that matter) is that I wanted to keep reading -- I wasn't just plodding through for duty's sake (as in ... view book

Fun stories. The “big bang” endings and heavy dialog remind me of the old Twilight Zone TV show. Have you considered writing screen plays? I think you’d be a natural for that. view book

You do a wonderful job building suspense and mystery. You use setting well. (I've never been to England but I still got a strong feel for the places you describe.) The poisoned candy twist added an unexpectedly quirky note and I wondered if there would be more of that. The only negative comment I'd ... view book
