about me

Currently i run an events company but have over 17 years cumulative service in the military and the police, the gist of which my book is based upon. I served as an armed response officer on SO19 (Now CO19) and involved in a lot of armed operations in London and also Nationally supporting forces with Limited firearms capability. Some of the incidents i was involved in were topical. I also have the dubious accolade to be the only police officer in history to be required to resign for the same incident after a 2 year long chain of events and this also forms a chunk of the book about my experiences at the hands of the judicial system. The book is written to give the reader an honest insight into life in and out of the police.

Dan Madrell

A book about my time in the metropolitan police and selection and operations on CO19

This book is a recollection of some of the experiences I had at Hendon police training school and some incidents I witnessed or was involved in whilst on routine patrols or armed operations. It’s also a mixture of insights into police training, the rigorous CO19 selection and subsequent courses and also some instances that made me laugh, some that were extremely upsetting and some that caused me great anxiety and stress. In some parts I might come across as aggressive, intolerant or angry but if so then that is most likely what my feelings were at the time given the particular situation and I really want to take you, the reader, on the rollercoaster of genuine emotions I feel would be shared by most people in similar circumstances represented in this book.
