about me

I bake bread and draw cartoons and am somehow sustained by those two activities until such a time as I am stumble upon an idea too large to sketch or work out through kneading clumps of soggy dough and these are the times I will write a play or, even rarer, a novel.

The Road to Graceland

William Seebring

Was Elvis murdered?
And what if the killer was Elvis himself...
Seeking revenge from a traitorous twin
brother all thought died at birth?

Q...Elvis was a killer who killed himself in what you call a "fact-based" crime novel?
A…Yes. But remember, Elvis had a twin brother.
Q…I thought Jesse died at birth.
A…Actually, no. The Presleys were forced to give one son up for adoption and while the adoptive parents were rich, they were cold and unfeeling so the brother developed some issues.
Q...Such as?
A...A thing for young girls.
Q...Elvis too.
A...Not true. Only after he left for Germany which was when they made the switch. Doesn’t it seem odd that Elvis aborted his singing career to join the army then came home to make crappy movies?
Q...You said "they." Who were "they?"
A...Colonel Parker and then Vice President Richard Nixon.
Q...Why would Nixon get involved with Elvis?
A...In the 1950’s, there was a dramatic shift in the youth attitude from conforming to rebelling. People said Elvis’s music was the cause and that it blurred the line separating the races.
Q...So, they swapped Elvis out for his twin?
A...Who was a homicidal psychopath with a weight problem.
Q...And the real Elvis?
A...Framed. Sent to prison but he escaped and made his way back to Memphis.
Q...And then what?
A...Read the book.
