::UPDATES::

I've just uploaded the first volume to Melaney and the Edge of Alternity! Please do note, it is entirely unedited. I've posted it up for those who've wanted to read it, so no crit or backing is necessary right now (though, any given will still be appreciated).

The full manuscript is available for M&M here, and the trailer is now available on YouTube and my website! Also, check the Mirror out on Facebook!

AUGUST 29, 2011
The final complete manuscript for My Last Notes is now available to read! The extended and original trailers for My Last Notes are still available on my website and youtube (you can see through the links below).

::READING POLICY::

Due to the things going on in my life today, if you really want me to review your manuscript, I will only be doing swaps or return reads. If you simply back mine or give it a rating, please message me so I know I should return the read unless you leave a comment. If it seems I have forgotten, I probably haven't (I just get insanely busy with school), please don't hesitate to send me a message! Thank you!!

okay, truth time, I don't really like people and I can be kind of mean, but I promise honesty. : ] I rarely comment these days, but if I back it, it means I really do like it in some way and I try to leave those on my shelf as long as possible. If I do comment, it means whatever I have to say hasn't already been said, I simply like it A LOT, or I promised some good feedback. If I do love your book but I remove it from my shelf after 24 hours, it's honestly because I need to make room for other books in my queue, but if you are in need of some shelf time, message me and I might place it on my shelf again.

::A LITTLE ABOUT ME::

I'm a health science student from VA beach (USA), I have a gorgeous 3 year old daughter and an awesome husband, I'm 1/4 Native American (Tsalagi Nvdagi tribe) but never lived on a res, so no the red brown hair is not natural (first time I dyed my hair too). I can read and write Japanese but speak only a little, and I love sarcasm. I love art and music, and writing is just one of my many life long passions.

I hope anyone who looks at my work will love what they've come across, but I could always use suggestions to be better and welcome them wholeheartedly... I can take anything you can dish out!

favourite books

Music is really my hero. Classical, alternative, really anything except country :/

Books:

Everyone should read The By Everybody Book. Not just because I scribbled in it, but because it's plain fun :P http://www.authonomy.com/books/36685/the-by-everybody-book/

anything written by Stephen King (I think my favorite is Nightmares and Dreamscapes)
Yuu Watase, Rumiko Takahashi and Nobuhiro Watsuki are my heroes :]
Blue Like Jazz by Donald Miller
Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden
Animosity by David Lindsey
Frank Peretti
Mark Twain
Sandra Boynton Books (My daughter loves those too!)
Romance and horror, and honestly anything else fiction!

If it's non fiction, the only thing I'll probably be interested in is a medical book (it's weird I know) or True life drama, but this site ceases to amaze me sometimes! :)

my favorites as a kid were R.L. Stein's goosebumps books, shel silverstein's poems (in fact I read entire books of his collections in hours), Edgar Allen Poe and anything else fiction. So, if you have a book that compares to those I will definitely take a look!

Melaney and the Mirror

Brittany Engstrand

Melaney's stuck on the other side of the mirror...

...this mysterious and evil place of dreams is inhabited by demons and unseen creatures. Melaney’s forced to travel with It Tsuke, a cursed boy who seeks revenge, to stop an evil entity from wreaking havoc. She can’t get too close to It Tsuke because she will one day wake up and return to a world without him in it, but since he's rude, selfish, violent and mean, it shouldn't be difficult... right?

They team up with two new friends and try to find a way to destroy Akumakage- the demon of the shadows who is stealing the sacred souls to travel into Melaney's world. However, Akumakage isn’t the only evil in the mirror world, and other lurking demons are constantly after their lives. When they determine that Akumakage is also after Melaney's soul, they learn that his games and tricks are more dangerous than they anticipated. After all, isn't it true that if you die in your dreams, your life ends as well?

Melaney soon finds her heart falling for It Tsuke despite her efforts. Her heart told her everything that was happening was real, but what if it was nothing more than a dream?

Melaney and the Edge of Altern....

Brittany Engstrand

New battles and complexities arise within the mirror…

Melaney was finally happy in the mirror world with It Tsuke and their friends. That is, until the journal she’d been using as a connection with her brother in the real world brings bad news. Her mother turns very sick- believed to be the work of a spirit that entered the world when Melaney left to continue the balance of both worlds. Now, Melaney must return to her world even though it has completely forgotten her existence.

It Tsuke vows to follow her, afraid to lose her once more, and Melaney must choose between the life of her mother and wellbeing of her brother and the happiness she finally has. Meanwhile, Naakate is conspiring against them by recruiting a group of notorious demons and even a few of Melaney and It Tsuke’s former allies.

There is only one way left to pass through the two worlds- the border between Alternity and Eternity, but can they destroy a spirit in her world without disturbing the balance and will Melaney be able to return to the mirror world?

Please Note: This has been uploaded simply for those who are wanting to read it and is very rough!

My Last Notes

Brittany Engstrand

Does true living only come after death? Can true love only be invincible then?

When Selena Houston, a young graduate from Tangier Island, goes on a class trip to New York, she has high hopes in finding out exactly who she is in life. Even though she has no interest in finding love, it meets her in a very unlikely form. Cedric Bolivar, a very charming, provocative and alluring vampire never knew he could find this sort of remarkable love that would last an eternity. The conflicts between people who keep them apart threaten to ruin the plan or destiny that their life may be meant to have.

Selena soon realized that the life she once knew would never be the same and that all good things will come to an end, especially after an unexpected turn leaves her searching for her ultimate revenge, but what about after life? Will love prevail over all, even after death?

I came to take a peak and I've stayed up way past my bedtime to read this! I had to force myself to stop. Your first chapter really draws the reader in and, by the end of it, you just have to keep reading on. Awesome imagination, depth of plot, prose and imagery. Definitely on my shelf with the inte... view book

YARG review Even though this is a children's book, I'm surprisingly engrossed in the story. I only saw a few grammar points, one sticking out ("Ricky!" Mom snapped[add period] But I was on a roll. "My... /or could be/ "Ricky!" Mom snapped, but I was on a roll. [new paragraph] "My...). Other than ... view book

Interesting story, even though this type of fantasy is not my specialty. There were a few spots that I noticed some grammar is off (for instance, when one is speaking in more than one paragraph, you always begin with quotes and when a new person speaks you start a new paragraph) but other than that ... view book

I can immediately tell that you've worked hard on this manuscript- the imagery is perfect and I can see it all as it happens. In my opinion only, the beginning was a bit fuzzy at first- I wasn't sure of the surroundings, but it gradually cleared up (which might be what you are going for there). Hone... view book

I'm so glad I finally had a chance to check out Crystal Child. So far, I'm really hooked on this read. You had me hooked right away, something even I find hard to do. I feel like I'm watching the events happen as I read. I couldn't find really anything to critique on, but I do know I'll be back for ... view book
