about me

British (some would say very), retired software developer. I had hoped retirement would mean more time to devote to writing, but life is just as busy as ever.

I write comedy fantasy, mainly for a younger audience (teens rather than tots). I have one book published (Wonderland Revisited and the Games Alice Played There) and a second (Welcome to the Crazyverse) due out on 29th February 2012. The second book is comic verse. That's comedy that happens to rhyme. It's not poetry, honest!

My second children's novel is currently in the proof stage with my publisher.

favourite books

"The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time".
Philip Pullman's "His Dark Materials" trilogy.
Anything by Terry Pratchett.

I came here from your forum discussion about what is, and what isn't, appropriate vocabulary for non adult readers. This is a subject close to my heart because the use of excessively sophisticated language has been the main and consistent criticism of my own children's book, Fair-eyes, here on Au... view book

Faith Interestingly, my initial interpretation of your title was in the same sense as "snail on speed". I had this strange mental image of a very butch fish with empty spinach can and Popeye muscles - but that's just my perverse sense of humour. Perhaps hyphenating, as someone else suggested, wou... view book

Nicky Finally managed to get around to the promised visit to Chickens. I'm not normally a great fan of this sort of non fiction "international move" genre but I found this surprisingly entertaining. You have a great turn of phrase. The "small hairy dog resembling a floor mop..." was wonderful ima... view book

Jess I thoroughly enjoyed the refreshingly different style of this book. It's a book style but with comic-book touches. I don't think I expressed that very well so I hope you understand what I mean. There are several times when the author addresses the reader directly (eg. the notes for earth rea... view book

Well! Only for about the third time since joining Authonomy I've been blown away. Right from the initial pitch - what a refreshing change from "Eric meets Julie on a bus, their wild romance takes Scunthorpe by storm until Julie's ex turns up on the door step and bottles him. Julie murders her ex ... view book
