about me

My book is based upon the life of Mary Tudor, daughter of Henry VIII by his first wife Katharine of Aragon. It follows Marys life, narrated by her in the first person narrative, from her tormented adolence at the hands of her father and Anne Boleyn, through to her death as a lonely and embittered woman.

I chose to write from Marys` point of view because I believe it is an unusual angle to take not only in subject itself, but provides a different view on a famous part of English history. Everyone knows the story of Henry VIII & his six wives as well as his daughter Elizabeth, Mary is quite a forgotten figure. Her reign has always been overlooked as little more than a failiure and she was always destined to be overshadowed by the two giants of Tudor history, Henry VIII and Elizabeth I.
I have tried to see beyond the mantle of "Bloody Mary" and present a more genuine portrayal. The young Mary was an intelligent, kind & brave person, very different from the damming sobriquet which has become her epitaph.

As the book progresses, and the reader is introduced to each of Henrys successive wives, note that the three Katherines, each have a different spelling of their names. This is not to give them distinction so as too avoid confusion. This is the way they signed their names in letters and official correspondence. For example I have Katharine of Aragon, Kathryn Howard, and Katherine Parr.

The Lady Mary - The Kings Daug....

Nikki Long

From the minute she is sent to Hatfield, Mary Tudors` life would never be the same again.

When Mary Tudor receives the letter she has been dreading for months, it changes her world more than she ever could have imagined.
The once indulged and sheltered heir to the throne of England, Mary is cast into the brutal and harsh reality that is her fathers` realm.
Living as a prisoner and forced to wait as a maid to her usurping half sister, the daughter of Marys deadly enemy; Marys ill treatment will ultimately shape her life as a pious and determinedly stubborn woman.
Through four more of her fathers` marriages, a battle of religious liberty with her once adoring brother, and her increasingly strained relationship with her sister, Mary must draw on her remarkable bravery and determination, to guide her to the most powerful, and most dangerous role of all, the throne of England!
