about me

I was raised to believe that people of faith were weak because they could not stand on their own and needed God as a crutch. This in turn taught me to define strength and power within a worldly context which I sought out in the Marines, the FBI and then when I worked as a professional bodyguard. It wasn't until I witnessed a good friend make a sacrifice that I began to understand what true, everlasting power really was. I accepted Christ about 11 years ago and have served Him ever since (as best I can). I now work with men fresh out of prison, many of whom share my old views. I wanted a way to demonstrate the strength and beauty of true faith (not religion) in a way that would be fresh, creative and interesting. I always respected the methods of C.S. Lewis (although I found most of it to be a bit subtle) and so I was led to write this book, of which I have posted the first several chapters. I favor a minimalist writing style, painting a picture with the fewest brushstrokes possible. I hope you enjoy it. Your feedback is most welcome.

Thanks and God bless!

Ascendence

D.S. Gibson

A planetary assassin seeks out the ultimate power in the universe.

Where life ends...salvation begins.

For longer than he can remember, the Madrin has traveled the universe draining planets of their energy to feed his insatiable hunger. With each conquest his self-hatred and loneliness grows, yet he remains unstoppable. That is, until he attacks a defenseless planet called Alamantha, and is nearly destroyed in the process. There he meets Eloi, who reveals to him the ultimate power in the universe. Will the Madrin be willing to pay the price to attain it? And will it be enough to save them from the approaching threat?

Raechel, Other than that leaping issue mentioned in the prior comment, I found your story interesting with just the right balance between description and allowing my imagination to work. You are an excellent writer and I hope you allow your skill to continue to grow. Thanks and God bless. D.... view book

One of the other reviewers used 'lyrical' to describe this story and I woudl have to agree. However, as an American (English as my first language), I found the writing very distracting due to the broken English. If you are going to move forward with this, please consider working closely with an En... view book

The pacing of the story really moves the reader along and I think it works to form an engaging tale. I think at times this rapid pacing came at the sacrifice of details that may have made the surroundings come alive. Things like the mother's pain as she looks for her child could have been explored... view book

The premise of your story is intriguing and made me want to read on. I felt that some of the language was superfluous, such as in the first paragraph when you listed all of the things the Kestrel hunted (a mouse, a lizard, a small snake, a grasshopper…). This is a recurring pattern throughout your... view book
